The Mandarin is mentioned in a Business Chronicle article on the Buckhead Village project. Its basically just a lot of speculation on what hotel brands might be a part of the project and says the Mandarin seems to be "stuck on" the Midtown location.

Tivoli Properties, the developer of this building confirmed in thie weeks ABC that they have signed a five star hotel operator for the 200 room hotel.

It is pretty dramatic. My question is whether residents will have to wear sunscreen while sitting on their balconies at night. The white accent that runs the full height of the building splits the balconies on the residential floors and looks like it would be annoying to live with.

A local developer has filed its official plans to build a 50-story hotel with condominiums and retail space at 1138 Peachtree Street in Atlanta.

As first reported by Atlanta Business Chronicle in March, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is planning to open a luxury hotel as well as condominiums on Peachtree Street between 1100 Peachtree and the Atlanta Woman's Club on the site of what is now a surface parking lot.

Atlanta-based Tivoli Properties Inc. is the developer for the project, and on Thursday submitted its formal plans to the state as a development of regional impact. The plans call for a 200-room hotel, 70 high-rise condos and 11,500 square feet of retail space. Pending permit approvals, the project will break ground and be finished in 2010.

Hong Kong-based Mandarin Oriental, known for its fan logo and five-star luxury, is in the midst of a major expansion, with the goal of operating 10,000 rooms in major business centers and key leisure destinations around the world.

This is good news. As far as a tallest, I wouldn't want my city's tallest building to be a hotel or residential but instead a big ass corporate HQ with some name everyone around the world recognizes. Like um, Coca Cola?

^ Well at 700 ft it will still be the tallest building built in Atlanta since 1992.

And yet the tallest building in Atlanta was a hotel for quite a long time. I have to admit, I didn't mind.

I also wouldn't mind a twisting 2000' condo building being tallest...

My guess is that at the time, they were considering locating in a project with an office component, resulting in a pretty tall building.

And maybe I'm just nit-picking, but Tivoli merely filed the DRI papers. The article doesn't specifically say that either Mandarin or Tivoli has confirmed that 1138 will be a Mandarin.

According to the height proposal on SSP.com, we are looking at less than 650 feet. Is 700 official?

Tonight I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Scott Leventhal, the owner of Tivoli Properties, and I asked him if they would be proceeding with the development on Peachtree and 13th. He gave me a big smile and said, "We're making the announcement in October."

oh, i knew about mandarin relocating their headquarters, but the skepticism that existed then (and still now) was a little shaky on mandarin actually moving into 1138. i knew it from the start mandarin was going to move in because atlanta is their new home.

does anybody know if the developers are going to extend 13th street? the building seems narrow enough to make room for an expansion.

The building is necessarily narrow because that lot is so narrow. There won't be any room for a road. Indeed, it is my understanding that the developer needed a variance to allow the footprint of the building to take up as much of the lot as it does.
