In Ontario, we just redesigned our license plates, and in this brand new design, added a prominent St. Edwards Crown to the corner.

I can't remember now. Do the Yours to Discover plates have a crown plus a trillium or just a trillium?

Just a crown. No trillium at all.

Reading the thread name I think everybody would be better off with Queen Camilla, the Iron Lady II

Ut incepit fidelis sic permanent. Weird that they've chosen to sing the royal anthem, if they're going to be wasting time singing at all I'd rather it be the Canadian or Ontario anthem.

Video Link

How timeless is the logo, though?? That's the font they should have used on the licence plates. Ah, the optimism of the late 60s! Not one invocation of the monarch, btw.

Pretty untimely overly nationalist tune that doesn't represent the most populous part of Ontario at all.

Oh, of course, but it's certainly more representative of Ontario than God Save the Queen.

I'm getting the idea I may be out of touch with the "modern" PEI.

I haven't really lived on PEI since 1979 (save for one 9 month stint as a GP in Summerside in 1984-85 before I went back to do my residency training).

When I was growing up on the Island, it was staunchly royalist. I thought it still was. Maybe I am mistaken then..........

I don't know about polls, mostly the Atlantic provinces are grouped together for such things.

Also, PEI highway signs have trees and license plates have a building. Hardly a St Edwards's crown to be found.

I will not be singing along to God Save the Queen unless it is to joke around, but can someone explain to me why it is offensive and inappropriate when it is Canada's official royal anthem and she is our head of state?

It is not inappropriate at all, and since it is Canada's official royal anthem, it should be played at most official government events, especially those where the military is involved, since Her Majesty is officially in charge of the armed forces.

It is much less common to hear it though than it was 50 years ago. I vaguely recall having to sing it in school in the mornings (at least elementary school) when I was a child.

There's nothing inappropriate about it, but you can reliably depend on Doug Ford to pander to his right-wing base with the stupidest shit imaginable.

When I was in grade school it was Oh Canada in the Morning and God Save the Queen at dismissal.

As for the military the fanfare for the General Salute is the first 4 bars of God
Save the Queen followed by the last four bars of Oh Canada. (I think that is the correct term)

I think you are confusing “pandering” with a small acknowledgement of Ontario’s heritage.

I won't be singing it either. It's not something you will hear in Timmins. I find it so ridiculous that the Ford government wants to make it a regular thing in the legislature.

Observance of the monarchy is not something that is done here. We actually have almost nothing here named after British monarchs. There used to be two public schools and I attended one of them but they have both since been renamed.

FYI, Canada will cease paying for Harry & Meghan's security detail once their royal duties end on March 31:
