Now that I'm back in Spokane I'll have to report back on the Thomas George. I was downtown yesterday and it looks like excavation is underway.

Looks like plans to expand the CDA resort are back in the news.

From the Spokane Journal of Business:

'Hagadone Hospitality Co. plans to expand The Coeur d'Alene Resort with a nearby, 139-guest-room hotel development that is expected to cater to leisure travelers and to boost the economic impact of the tourism industry in North Idaho, says Bill Reagan, president of the resort hotel.

The project, dubbed Sherman Tower, will be located a block north of The Coeur d'Alene Resort, on the north side of Sherman Avenue, between First and Second streets. '

This is all there is relating to scope:

'He declines to disclose construction cost estimates. As currently planned, Sherman Tower appears to be larger in scope than the nearby, 15-story One Lakeside building, which has 69 living units and opened in 2021 with a construction value of $20 million.

Preliminary design plans show the building will rise in tiers from the fifth to 15th floors.'

I don't post about every little project but 6 stories in Coeur d'Alene isn't bad...an AC Hotel by Marriott is being proposed and the public hearing will be tomorrow. The hotel would be on Sherman Avenue in downtown Coeur d'Alene, between 6th Street & 7th Street. It would have 130 parking stalls (on a main level and 3 underground levels) and would rise 6 stories, with 131 guest rooms and a rooftop bar.

This hotel would be on the same block as the 20 story Parkside Tower, across the street from the 609 Sherman building, which is 7 stories, and one block from the 15 story McEuen Terrace building. The eastern downtown core will have a nice height variety!

This building was proposed back in early December. The Cd'A Design Review Commission gave the proposal unanimous approval yesterday. The tower will be 190 feet (15 floors). Construction could begin as early as next year and finish in the spring of 2027.

There will be 139 hotel rooms (the current building has 338 so the complex will have a total of 477 rooms), a restaurant with a rooftop lounge, parking for 80 vehicles, and retail/commercial spaces in this building. It will be located diagonally from where the current building sits, between First and Second Streets along Sherman Avenue.

The preliminary plan was just filed with the city of Coeur d'Alene. The goal is to begin work on it in early 2025 with scheduled completion in May 2027. Note that an addition to the Resort has been proposed twice in the past, most recently in 2015 (although both of the previous proposals were in different locations...on top of the current Coeur d'Alene Resort Plaza Shops, which is across the skywalk from the current tower). I don't give this proposal a 100% shot of going through, although I think it is more likely than not to happen. Previously, plans were pulled due to worsening economic conditions and because of signals from the city of Coeur d'Alene that plan approval might not happen.

As always, there are horrible renderings! And, as always, the new tower will look just like the current one, design-wise.

Here's a link to when the previous plans were pulled in 2015, along with another horrible rendering:

Was downtown yesterday; the Thomas George is up to ground level with elevator cores going higher.

The new KC justice building is making a decent presence on NW Blvd as well.

I made some mockups of the new major construction via Google Earth. The 3D worldview for CDA hasn't been updated in about a decade so I had to mockup the One Lakeside. Hopefully this helps to visualize what the city will look like in a few years.
