I don't think it's necessarily a purely Democrat problem, but rather a problem with long-time politicians being in bed with their chosen money machines for decades upon decades on end. Get rid of the old guard, many of the problems will likely be able to be alleviated in fairly short order.

You are right. But in Illinois, this is specifically a Democratic problem.

They have zero will to face up to this problem, although Kennedy shows a glimmer of a clue. Biss is hopeless and Priztker is an absolute tool. He will single handedly turn Illinois into worthless gelatin if he’s elected.

Biss, Kennedy, and Pritzker are all very different candidates. Biss and Pritzker are progressive-minded, but Biss is pretty much the anti-Pritzker. Weird that a certain democratic speaker has somehow still managed to win over both the leading democratic hopefuls...

The democratic party in Illinois is huge and leadership has outsize influence. Kennedy comes across a bit more centrist. His public criticism of Madigan and the machine as a democrat is refreshing. Hoping he can pull through.

FYI, Polls now show Kaegi leading Berrios for the Assessor race. This could be a blow straight to the heart of the corrupt remnants of the Chicago and Crook County machine that feeds Madigan, Cullerton and the other tax appeal racket criminals. Everyone needs to turn out to vote in this race. A Berrios loss would be the most consequential election in recent history in Illinois. Kaegi is planning to throw wrench into the gears of the appeals racket greatly undermining the power and profits of many of the boat anchor politicians holding Illinois down.

Not a bad place to be, sandwiched between the Vatican and the Colosseum... Just goes to show the value of great architecture, if only our leaders would realize this and start actually preserving things.

I'm not that surprised though, I have a couple of tenants who work for the tour boat companies. They literally do nothing all winter and then make a years worth of money in like 5 months. They get paid an actual wage and also get tips, pretty sweet gig. I like it because it means free tours for the landlord!

Wow, I really wish Chicago’s leaders would for once capitalize on assets like this in a global marketing push. Unfortunately, we have like zero history of anyone doing that....so let’s just keep talking about how great San Francisco and New York are all day long....

Further down that list - Field Museum is the 9th most popular "new" event booked by Global travelers.

I doubt it goes anywhere. Rent control hasn't been effective anywhere it has been enacted and Chicago does not have an affordability issue.

Marothisu, I wasn’t clear on your data: are those people who are of 100% Chinese/Indian descent regardless of place of birth, or are they foreign born? If the former, how does the census determine that?
