SSP:Local?

In case anyone is wondering, if any city wants an SSP:Local treatment, all they need to do is get a conversation started on the topic to gauge interest.

Since a forumer from this section noted that another town was getting this before their town was, I thought I'd bring the discussion to you guys and see what you all have to say.

The gist of SSP:Local is to give metros a better organized and pre-categorized forum system that not only covers development but also provides discussion opportunities on local urbanism (that's all things related to your city). This does three things: first, is categorizes threads so that newbs and even regulars have an easier time looking up info and following discussions. Second, it decreases the mega-thread phenomenon and makes it far easier for newbs to jump in on certain topics without feeling like what they're saying has already been said or asked. And third, it tends to attract many more users since the topics covered are broader.

Btw, SSP:Local is currently live for Vancouver in case you haven't checked it out. They seem to have taken well to that sort of forum setup.

Personally I like this sort of setup, but some don't, which is fine. But if there's interest in something like this, let's here it, whether it be for the Peg, Sask or Reg, or elsewhere.

Hmm, I have mixed feelings on this one. It seems like a great idea, but it makes things spread out, as evident to what happened recently to the SSP: Local Vancouver board. Then again, organization would be nice.

I guess for Man & Sask, Winnipeg is what mostly is being talked about here. Probably the first to get an "SSP: Local" in this board... if the majority of Winnipeggers want one.

Reunite the west, and have an SSP:Local for Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Sask and Regina (maybe) and Winnipeg as subsections of the west.

Thumbs down

unless you reunite the western forums, its just another layer to wade through

not a great step forward in usability terms

If we go the SSP:Local route for larger towns we definitely could re-unite the west. It'd make more sense if the larger cities had their own forums.

I don't think Winnipeg or any other town in the Manitoba/Saskatchewan region have enough hits to support a Local page. I think that Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Toronto/Hamilton and Montreal do have enought interest to support their own Local page.

I disagree.

Winnipeg would most definately have enough hits from current forumers and those from other provinces who frequent the Manitoba/Sask. forum. It's already been proven with all the conversations in Winnipeg threads that we've had to endure about Calgary.

Last time I checked there were something like 50+ of us from Winnipeg, we're hardly a minority on SSP.

Besides having a local: Wpg section would totally steam all the Calgary forumers who feel that Winnipeg isn't worthy of such an honour , so i'm all for it.

Truthfully though, if each city develops a local thread than the idea of provincial sub forums is redundant as 90% of any regions conversations are on issues affecting the cities in a given province.

I'm all for it...

Winnipeg defenitaly big enough and more than enough forumers.

Winnipeg and Yorkton should never be mixed in the same forum again.

It seems like an awful lot of clicking for a very small amount of stuff. The forum is getting a bit overwhelming. I visit it a lot less than I used to because it takes so long to find anything interesting.

I personally hate North Enders, can we get a North and South Regina split?

Bah, I say no to the increasing localization/regionalization of the forums here. There's already too many short-sighted forumers floating around who never read anything that's going on anywhere else. Everyone knows you can't apply anything going on anywhere else to the issues in your own area/city/province.

Well, as neutral as I was in my previous post, if the majority of us 'Peggers want a local forum, then I'm all in for it too.
