its huge im well impressed, the last picture gives a great impression of the size with the guy at the base. Also its been recently mentioned that this is just the core and construction of the rest of the tower begins soon. Very exciting times for dubai.

That answers my question. I thought it looked a little too thin to be the whole base of the building. It makes me feel better about the structural integrity to hear that what I see in these photos is just the core. This thing is going to be huge.

It's good to see it is finally coming out of the ground. So there will be constant change for the next 2 years as it grows.

this IS just the core, was reported in a UAE paper recently, apparently the rest of the building will start rising soon. Look at the walls, of course its a core, they are sheer walls without windows

OOHH, i thought that was the whole base of the building. Thats just the core that hold the building from the inside. OMG, thats going to be huge!! When i first saw this thread i thought, not another rumor of a supertall building again, but this one is actually happening. I'm really shock and happy that they are building this supertall stucture. I wonder when the show MegaStructures will do documentary on it??

in my defense, I couldn't quite make mush out of the picture through all the wood and scaffolding...

Well, the company Emaar is building the Burj-Dubai and they're partly owned by the government. Usually one of the bigger companies will create a big project such as the marina and then sell plots to smaller devellopers who then build the towers.

To answer your question I'd say a bit of both.
