Well, this may not have the "wow" factor of a new building/development that some were hoping for, but in the end I think it's the prudent move for the Globe and has a number of advantages and opportunities:
- ownership of the building vs. renting
- ability to renovate as they see fit
- ability to generate additional revenue streams from other tenants, like Beer Bros.
- opportunity to get really creative by leasing out space on the ground level to other, complimentary arts organizations for example
As a season-ticket subscriber, the most important part of this move are, it keeps the Globe downtown, it preserves the building and it preserves the theatre-in-the-round format, which is the Globe's defining characteristic.
