Criminal activity in Ottawa apparently isn't as "organized" as it is in other ciites (say, Montreal) so you don't have powerful people calling the shots, who for example might come down really hard on a minion thug who shoots off a gun in the daytime in a tourist district, because the crime kingpins know the cops won't let that fly like they might turn more of a blind eye to thug-on-thug crimes in bad areas.
And because the Market has always been the epicentre of the city's retail illicit drug trade.

Though in terms of the most serious forms of violent crime, historically it was always way more quiet than it has been in the past couple of years.

Quite possibly reflecting shifts in control (or lack thereof) of the local drug trade.

The drug dealers have money and they're going to those places, and then conflicts are happening between them there.

The Ottawa gang members that have been murdered in Thunder Bay have all happened in reasonably well off areas too, like they just walk them out to a nice neighbourhood and kill them in front of an innocent person's house.

It seems to be getting worse. I've been here for 13 years now, and I've heard of scary stories in the market, but these past few months have been atypical.

I think the McDonald's raccoon guy set it off.

Out of the country right now but Gatineau might have its first. Shooting last night in the Vieux-Hull.

Same modus operandi as most Ottawa shootings.

We have been spared the mayhem thus far but it might just be a question of time before it spills over the bridge.

It's interesting because this is the first time multiple people had died under similar circumstances in separate events on highways in northern BC.

Either something is really really fishy, or they're real fast drivers. Kam & Bryer have covered Yukon to BC to SK to Man. in the matter of a few days.

Is this not an impossible feat?

Not with drugs and shift changes. 12 hours each. But possibly they're dead?

I know you are making a point, which I would like to highlight, that no one cared when it was native women by the dozens going missing, but 1 white couple and it's international news and there is a national man-hunt

the quantity is precisely why it's not heavily reported on..
"A Single Death is a Tragedy; a Million Deaths is a Statistic."

to your point about the 'missing blonde woman' media trope, it's purpose is two-fold:

A) serves as pornography for the loxists

B) additionally as inspirational material for future crimes

"look how much media attention you'll get for this specific crime.. who doesn't want to be a world famous killer?!?"

reminder that broadcast mass media is the most dangerous weapon system on this planet

Probably because tbose same native women are killed by their own people or go missing on the reserve. These are two totally different things.

At this point they have only be charged with one murder. the Professor from UBC that was found a short distance away from their vehicle.

They have not been named in the murder of the 2 tourist yet.

and now we have 2 Surrey men missing in the BC interior, have not been heard form in a week or so.
