Actually, Indeed has half of Block 71 and Facebook is negotiating a lease for the other half.

The site is being cleared. But that may have more to do with Third + Shoal and Austin Proper finishing up than imminent excavation.

The trailer that got stuck at I-35 and Cesar Chavez Thursday morning was being moved from the Block 185 site. The info can be pieced together from the webcam and KXAN story.

If it's a sole tenant they could. Deliver the rendering with a splashy news event perhaps? Either way it looks to be a game changer of a building for us.

This project still needs to go to the Design Commission for a density bonus. That's usually where we see the first renderings of a project if they were not previously released.
The next meeting is Monday 01/28, and the backup files with renderings are typically posted to their website around the end of the week prior to the meeting. So there's a chance we could see some on Friday 01/25. Other project renderings should be coming up soon as well at the Design Commission: The Travis, 305 W. 5th and some more of 44 East.

This one should be breaking ground soon. Not only was the site completely cleared this week, but the site plan for excavation was approved and released. The separate site plan for the tower is still awaiting approval. But dirt can move now.

Site Plan:

That was the height listed in the original elevations. It lost 4' when revised elevations were released.

No renderings yet, and presumably the design is the same

From today. Excavation is listed as taking 6 months beginning 01/16.

Sidewalk closure to mobilize for the Block 185 project, includes 2 feet of sidewalk for a fence on Cesar Chavez and the entire sidewalk on Nueces for mobilization / excavation of the site.

I don't believe we've seen a project that was at the excavation stage with no renderings released yet.

There has been no pre-marketing of the office space either. Both of which make me think it was pre-leased.

That's been the rumor since day 1. Also explains why this has been so tight-lipped and why the engineering seems to be a step above standard.

It'll be nice to have another near 600 footer. If we get this and one of 6x and Republic (or both!) our Skyline will have its 4th major transformation in less than 20 years. Which is pretty bonkers.

When we come out of the recession and the next-next wave start to rise (around 2022-2023) we're not going have a lot of space left for hi-rises. I'm hopeful that we'll be at the spot to push for a real supertall on the old post-office site by then.

Hopefully we'll also be primed around then to start tearing down lots of crappy in-fill from the late 90s/early 2000s and take out the rest of the parking garages around town*

*except for the one Garage is in, that bar is cool.

I believe it's Google. Hopefully it's another big office expansion announcement like the recent Apple announcement. Google recently announced a large new expansion in NYC.
