Not to be picky, but the variance mentions number of storeys... not height decrease.

The “Trump” is scheduled to be 325 metres at 70 floors which would translate into approx. 15 feet per floor
-same spire so 301m at 70m
-same mechanical
-some of the floors removed are in the parkade levels

(245+24+6)

275 metres would be my guess

Well I must say I am VERY disappointed. Although the skyline may actually be improved if First Canadian Place, Scotia Bank and Trump aren’t so close in height. The Trump project in Chicago is 92 stories (415m, 1,362 ft) sold quite quickly and is well under construction even though it was announced later than Trump Toronto. I wonder if this has implications for Shangri-La and Bazis, both of which have a very high end condo component. Trump was the only tower I am aware of that offered such high ceilings. Bazis for example is pulling some slight of hand. The earlier 60 storey project has been revived with an 80 storey building of the same height. It’s kind of like the suburbs where the developers squeeze more houses on a street by making the lots narrower. Bazis is doing the same thing by reducing ceiling heights in his proposal for 1 Bloor East.

Well as far as Trump goes, I guess council could say no, but that’s not very likely is it?

Quote from Emporis Buildings re: Trump Chicago "The building was originally planned with a large office section on the lower floors, but sales of the residential portion performed so well that the office floors were dropped from the plan."

I think the location was the only thing holding it back. It was likely the only site able to accommodate such a tall building because of the zoning, (look at what happened to Sapphire) which is why they chose it. But really not as nice a location as the Ritz or Shangri-La has.

I think its too bad Trump doesn’t have the balls to go forward with the 70 storey version. He is 70% sold and has his financing and it will take 18 months to two years to build the thing anyway – do some marketing! Come on Donald show some backbone. Harry Stinson wouldn’t have caved so easily.

Maybe so, but it's his name that takes the heat, Talon just sits in the background and watches - and you may be right, maybe Talon doesn’t have the stomach for this kind of turbulence, but I still think Trump could push them through if he wanted to.

Trump does have a stake in the development, but he may have escape clauses that allow him to reduce his stake if units don’t sell as well as planned. If true, then it is possible taht Talon is reducing their stake by simply giving up on Trump's discards (excuse the pun).

In thinking about it again and looking at the rendering, how do they remove 13 floors and not make this building look stupid?
(sorry folks, I don't know how to insert images)

i dont think thats how they'd shorten it (by removing 13 floors from one section). It would look alot less stupid if they took a few floors from each section, which is what i think theyll do.....hopefully :~{

Ya, I don't think They are going to use they're Paint program to simply cut out the middle section out of this building and say 'there it is'. Haha.
But, if they did build it like this we could all re-name it the Stump Tower--which sounds really funny in my head. Donald Stump, old crazy Stumpy.

Who knows? All I know is if I had paid millions of dollars for a 70th floor penthouse and was then told it would now be a 57th floor penthouse, I’d be some upset.

Ah, screw them. They're just a bunch of millionaires. It's what everyone else has to look at which is more important.
