This one is still not one of my faves, but that glass is really great though. My favorite view of it is from I-35. I have to admit, it is pretty slick from that side.

I put the new name in the thread title. The building is being called The Thompson. The apartment section is called Sienna at The Thompson.

Sounds like some good restaurant concepts coming to this building:

Looks pretty good. Although now we've got 3 restaurants, all with "Grey" in their name, all within hotels, all within downtown...

This is going to be this building's best side visually. Notice they are planning a ton of open air living. Hopefully they will be putting in safety rails so tenants don't roll out of bed and fall to their deaths.

Open air living at its finest. Or maybe the glass is just that clean.

I saw that orange crinkly fence stuff at the site. I believe that will be anchored on the open air parts, giving it a nice pop of color!

Hi all -

Long-time lurker and first-time poster here. Glad to see this project shaping up nicely and approaching the finish line. I've got some details about the hotels that I'll share below for the sake of information:

Thompson Austin
- Website is up at https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/te...n-austin/austh
- Opening summer 2021
- 228 rooms and suites
- 3 restaurants and bars
- 4th floor amenity deck with pool and cabanas
- Indoor/outdoor event space

tommie Austin
- Originally intended to be one of two inaugural properties for the tommie brand, a micro-hotel version positioned below the luxury Thompson brand with smaller rooms and select service
- tommie hasn't had a hotel open under Hyatt, and with Hyatt launching Caption in September 2019, they've since folded tommie under Caption
- The other planned tommie in Hollywood, CA will open in June 2021 as the first Caption by Hyatt, but tommie Austin will still open as a tommie - albeit as a JdV property [Hyatt's collection of upscale, independent hotels]
- Not many details of the hotel's room and offerings just yet, but I'll share them as they come along

I'm also attaching a few images of rooms from the Thompson and tommie below that I got from Hyatt. I personally find the Thompson's rooms a bit dark and the tommie's sparse, but hey...

Enjoy!

khabah

Impressive (fake) view there.

Ah...I originally thought the pictures were the view from Brazos.

Welcome to the board, Khabah, and nice find!

You're right about the Thompson. A bit overdark. I've seen their product in other cities, and it can really match the mood in certain places. Chicago and NYC jump out at me. There's a Gilded Age clubby feel to it. But that moodiness doesn't really fit Austin, TX, IMO. Needs more light and natural substances.

And gotta love a model room with it's fake-ass city views. That thing has been mocked up in an office building somewhere, maybe even in a different city.

I actually love the dark decor. Maybe not so much on a dark overcast and rainy day, but it really is striking while still being oddly soothing. I like the art-deco hints. It's a good room to get some sleep in if that's what you're needing.

I didn't notice it until your comment - and now I can't unsee it. Seems big for the room.
