OMAHA | HDR Headquarters | 160 Feet | 10 Floors

HDR selected their new location for their headquarters. They had originally announced a DT building that would be 15 floors and ~250 feet tall. The land deal was a mess and parking became an issue between them and a performing arts center across the street along with historic buildings in the crosshairs. Just a lot of moving parts that didn't work out.

They settled on Aksarben Village. A mixed-use development in the center of the city.

HDR’s future 10-story corporate headquarters, announced Thursday, will anchor the last sizable tract of undeveloped land at central Omaha’s Aksarben Village.

The architectural and engineering firm’s 245,000-square-foot office building will house retailers on its first floor. To the east, a new parking structure will contain ground-level shops and restaurants.

An alleyway between the two structures, at 67th and Frances Streets, is envisioned as a hotbed of retail and entertainment.

The pieces create a proposed HDR campus for up to 1,150 employees that will replace the digs that the century-old firm has outgrown near 84th Street and West Dodge Road.

No official height announced yet, but the Planning Board approved a variance to allow a building up to 160 ft. Assuming it will be pretty close to that.

Elevations in the TIF document show this building will in fact be 160 Ft tall.

Moved up to high-rise proposals since it's over the 115 ft minimum.

A first look inside: Omaha's HDR finally settles into its new Aksarben Village headquarters
By: Cindy Gonzalez
Omaha World-Herald

Quote:
A bumpy start has ended with a smooth landing, as nearly 1,000 HDR workers now are settled in their new 10-story global headquarters at Aksarben Village.

It's not as tall as the skyline-changing tower once envisioned in downtown Omaha — a spot scuttled because of parking and other conflicts — but Chief Executive Eric Keen said 1917 S. 67th St. feels like the "perfect" fit and atmosphere.

"The thing I get excited about is we're all together," said Keen, who rose to the top spot at the engineering and architectural company last year. "Having everyone located in one building helps collaboration and deepens relationships."
