I wouldn't be too sure about that. We've discussed before that once the west side is built out, the temptation to redevelop Javits will be irresistible. Still, that is decades in the future.

Javits will be gone before the West Side is even filled out.

The city decided on just doing a temporary, stopgap renovation. The land is way too valuable for a lowrise exhibition shed.

^ In that case, get ready for Hudson Yards version 3.0....

It would almost be funny if as soon as this tower got built, a new, taller building was planned directly accross on the Javits site.

Situated in the heart of the dynamic Hudson Yards District, directly across from the new Javits Convention Center 3 Hudson Boulevard, located at 34th Street and 11th Avenue will be a gateway for Manhattan's new West Side and an icon of green architecture for the 21st Century. This solar powergenerating tower will set a new standard for mixed use development by uniting premium corporate offices and the most exclusive residences with the state of the art in environmentally sustainable design.

3 Hudson Boulevard will rise as a gently-turning tower of glass adorned with an array of photovoltaic sun screens on its southern and eastern facades. The curtain wall will be comprised of spectrally selective glass with Low-emissivity coatings for enhanced comfort and environmental performance.

3 Hudson Boulevard will provide corporate tenants with more than 1.2 million square feet of high performance, Class A office space. At the podium level, floor plates will be over 35,000 square feet with clear lease spans in excess of 60 feet. Tower office floors will be approximately 27,000 square feet with clear spans of 40 feet or more.

Office floors will be greater than 14 ft. in height with a 5-foot window module taking full advantage of the spectacular views. The office lobby will offer a grand entry experience, gracefully expressed in stone, sustainable wood and illuminated glass.

The base is sensational.

Taken all together, all these West Side & periphery developments will rival XSquare in activity and architectural vibrancy.
Are the opaque superimpositions of the other towers placeholder of sorts? Or has some (perhaps) more definitive work been done on what is planned for the immediate area? They look maybe a bit too detailed in every respect to just be models

Just generic towers to show that this building won't stand alone in the new district.

Once everything is squared away with transit, this will be a very desirable area, especially for LIRR and NJT commuters. The developer seems to have a lot of pride in the potential for this building and the possibilities of this up incoming district.

It reminds me of the Rockefeller Center expansion area. Massive towers in an area where none really ever existed before....

Metro-North will be coming into Penn Station as well, but I think a bigger key here is the 7 line (just a few stops from Grand Central). We can't stress enough how important it is having the subway extended here. It's like having a whole new piece of Manhattan created out of nothing. I expect this tower to take off as we near completion of the station, with potential tenants announced before then. Also, it looks like the design will stay the same.

The XYZ buildings IMO, despite a lot of criticism I've read, are quite New Yorkish in that they carry a certain quiet swagger almost *because* of their blandness.
Nah...
It's definitely the size...::NY accent mode on::...youse stoopid mawwwwwwwrons...figeddabaaahdit.

Now imagine that kind of attitude,
only about 500 feet taller on average,
covering a swath of Midtown from the Hudson riverfront to 57th,
and setting architectural precedents of all kinds for American cities for generations to come.

If this economy doesn't do a complete double-dip tankeroonie, that is.

Those renderings are making this one of my more preferred buildings on the proposal table. The base is magnificent. Looks almost as if it was designed with Times Square in mind. Brilliant!

It does. Seems there's more to this building than met the eye originally.

Ive never liked the idea of a development where all the buildings are mirrory and glassy. That's why i liked this design the most. It tries to blend in as much as possible:

Its a subtle beauty. Like the facade of the Twin Towers.

FXFOWLE Hudson Yards Tower Put on Burner for 7 Train Extension

Friday, August 26, 2011, by Kelsey Keith

Quote:
We like to check in with our skyscraper thread friends every so often and this week, rendered rumors have been flying in regards to The GiraSole, ...A spokesperson for developer Moinian Group clears a few things up for us about that timing:

"This development site is currently being net-leased by the Hudson Yards Development Corporation as a construction staging area for the MTA’s extension of the #7 subway line, which is now expected to be completed sometime in late 2013 or early 2014. The developer entered into a seven-year lease with them for this use back in 2007. They have been working very closely with the MTA and when the extension is completed the site will be well-positioned to begin development of 3 Hudson Blvd., which will have direct access to the subway. Current projections are for construction to begin soon after the subway extension is complete, most likely in 2014, with completion expected in 2016."

MTA to start last phase of No. 7 Manhattan extension

By Philip Newman
Thursday, September 15, 2011

Quote:
MTA officials announced Wednesday that construction will start this month on the final major project to extend the No. 7 subway to Manhattan’s far west side.

The $517 million final major contract was signed last month and awarded jointly to Skanska USA and RailWorks Corp.

In the final major phase of the construction, workers will lay tracks and install third rails and signals in newly finished tunnels.

The project includes installing elevators and escalators as well as power, lighting, plumbing, heating and air conditioning in the new station at 34th Street and 11th Avenue.
