Look at the curves on that lady. Take that same shot when skip is down.

I've had police - on horses - tell me I can't walk down that ramp. So keep an eye out.

Column: Jeanne Gang-designed, soon to open Vista Tower adds to Chicago’s impressive gallery of ‘down-the-alley’ views

In Chicago, a certain view of buildings — long, head-on and thrillingly dramatic — is as rare as a warm day in February.
This is not Washington, D.C., where the diagonal avenues of Pierre L’Enfant frame stunning views like the one of the Capitol down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Instead, our buildings are boxed in by the street grid, hard-pressed to call attention to themselves unless they face the Chicago River, Lake Shore Drive or central Michigan Avenue — or, like Willis Tower, they break free of the grid by soaring into the sky.

Every so often, though, architects get extraordinary opportunities to liberate their buildings from the relentless regularity of the grid and fashion images that resonate in our collective mindset.

The latest (and by far the tallest) example of this phenomenon — the soon to open 101-story, 1,191-foot-tall Vista Tower, by Chicago architect Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang…
Two sections later later: Trump tower, also an example

very Kamin

Maybe Kamin is a roof height purist (although an 8.4m difference doesn't really qualify as "by far").

The pic in post #7257, like something out of the architectural matrix. Very trippy tower, designed by trippy minds for trippy people to enjoy. Studio Gang Architects really overdid themselves.

That blow through floor is aging very well. I'd almost be sad if it was never included, seeing what I've been seeing. But thats the thing with architecture, certain things, add so much, and might not be apparent right away, until you become comfortable, might I say complacent with the design. Take away the blow through floor, and a piece of Vista is missing, emotionally and visually. Kinda gives a touch of emphasis for the roof, which is a visual weak point in this tower, IMO, but it draws the eye and mind towards the top, which is good. Adds some variety.

Yesterday from Navy Pier. Really wish the skip was down. At this rate, it'll be next summer before proper daytime exteriors can be made. Oh well. Fun to scout. More to come.
