You're probably right which is too bad. It's a beautiful area but too remote for the average person to see. As far as I know, Parks Canada doesn't even maintain the trail through the pass anymore. As a thought exercise it's a fun one though, since it's so rare for new mountain passes to be built. What was the last one built in BC or Alberta? Highway 97C between West Kelowna and Merritt?

Alberta was Probably the Highwood Pass. Highway 40

Would be awesome to give people another option to get to BC, the #1 gets quite hectic at times. Parks Canada is all about conservation these days it seems (which is probably a good thing lol), so definitely wouldn't happen.

Good luck getting BC to build/upgrade a highway for Alberta's benefit. There is an FSR that runs half way up already. It would be great for us though as we travel between Edmonton and Kelowna lots but I won't hold my breath as Hwy 1 is a higher priority and this new highway will hardly reduce traffic on Hwy 1.

Wouldn't the highway benefit B.C. more than AB? Or does B.C. no longer care about attracting tourists from AB?

This appears to be spearheaded by a Central Alberta advocacy group. I imagine it's more industry focused than tourism.

Rather than Howse Pass, I would like to see an improved route from Calgary to Spokane, WA (and thus Seattle) as an economic trade stimulator. Routing through Cranbrook and connecting with US 95 in Idaho down to I-90.
Selfishly if they could route it so it cut the time it takes to drive from Calgary to the Radium/Windermere/Fairmont area that would be appreciated.

It's Christmas! Jk, it's budget day. And with budget day comes road projects. My favourite on the list this year is the "Highway 2A Twinning Project between Red Deer and N of Central Park Road." Says it is in 'design' now, they must be revisiting it because they already have functional plans drawn up that a probably over 10 years old.

Full list of projects here: https://www.alberta.ca/assets/docume...on-program.pdf

The only things that caught my attention were
(1) new traffic light on TCH through Dunmore and
(2) 2 lights on Crowsnest Highway (one through Coleman).
Can I say that, be it PC or NDP, none can do highway right? In hindsight, why weren’t places like Redcliff - Medicine Hat - Dunmore and Strathmore bypassed right from the beginning...
I’m actually fuming right now.

You missed some key points concerning the 201. The South project of the West leg is listed as "construction." They've been doing site work for a few months (more?) and the contract is supposed to be awarded early spring with construction starting immediately. That leg is being done as design build and they seem to be flying as far as I'm concerned. There's also mention of doing design work to make a segment of the NE leg six lanes. The sooner that's done the better but it would be ideal if the entire segment was six lanes.

that's brutal. For every interchange they build on #1 it seems like they add several sets of lights somewhere else.

Dunnmore, Dunnmore, the province really should have done more (than just adding lights).

Noticed they are about to lift steel into position on the North central piers for the Highway 15 bridge.Looks like they are trying to get this done before Breakup.

Work to widen Highway 15 through Fort Saskatchewan continues. I'm curious: A news article said that the signal (or signal phasing) at Highway 15 & Highway 21 is close to being maxed out. What can be done? A diamond interchange for Highway 21 - Highway 15? Or a 90-degree interchange for Highway 15 with ramps to and from Highway 21 and 94 Street?

Nah I just follow highway news closely. Highway 1, Highway 3, Highway 17, Route 185, Highway 104 are my common search words.

That’s exciting news!
Now we have to work on getting the western portion twinned through Crowsnest Pass. Oh, and finish the job east to Medicine Hat too.
