The corner retail is the most important part in my opinion. It can tie in fig to flower and down 9th Street. The tower itself is ok, not great not horrible

^^^^

I was thinking the same. Looks like it will help create a dynamic space for pedestrians and improve the streetscape.

Btw, that sign is huge. Will it be the biggest in LA?

^ The combined signage at the Figueroa Hotel a block away is larger, and their are several legal wallscapes (that's advertising speak for large billboards - we'll also accept "spectaculars") on Sunset Blvd and Wilshire Blvd and Hollywood Blvd, as well as some mostly illegal ones along the 405 near LAX that are much larger. But this one is very well-placed with an excellent read looking straight down 9th street, which is a major auto entry point to downtown, so it will command a nice price premium for advertisers.

Located on one of the most popular intersections in downtown Los Angeles, The Apex mixed use high rise is an ode to modern luxury. This 28-story, IA construction sits on 0.5 acres and provides 341 spacious units. In addition to existing parking, this project is adding 3 levels of underground parking which will provide 65 additional spaces. The Apex’s 4,200 square foot rooftop amenities space features sitting areas surrounded by lush landscapes and panoramic views of the city. An eye-catching 6,500 square foot LED sign will be mounted on the west wall facing the Hollywood Hills and the Harbor freeway.

I really hope that's the design they go with. Much better than the other one.

So this is north of the existing Apex along 9th Street? This much of the new development such as Oceanwide Plaza remind me so much of SE Asian cities.

^ Correct, it's northeast of the existing Apex tower, but on the same block (and property), and connected to the same podium.

It makes sense that a lot of the new development downtown would remind you of Asian cities: they are primary Chinese developers building them.

Conveniently enough the metropolis webcam also serves as a pretty good Apex II webcam if you look closely

The skin is great on this pair. I like the first phase building most, with the off centered top half. Great couple.
