Yeah, but they made the mistake of assuming that you could plant a bunch of blocky gray monoliths in a field, call it "towers in the park" and sell people on that sort of idiocy. They tended to provide few if any amenities and made the layout more like suburban Moscow than anything anybody would grow to love.

You can build a sea of highrises and have them be integrated and formed at a community, you just have to consider a few basics.

Here in China there's no shortage of highrises and high-density neighborhoods. In fact, that's pretty much all that exists. Granted, the Chinese don't think of neighborhoods the way that we do (I'm pretty sure they don't think of it at all) but it's just a word that corresponds to an idea. They've still built plenty of attractive districts with plenty of life in them out of nothing but highrises. It most definitely can be done and, in fact, is done all the time in a lot of the world. I would agree to some extent that social housing is better done when not concentrated but don't forget that the rest of the population doesn't like paying top dollar to live next to poverty. I'm sorry if people don't like to hear that but it's a fact of life and has always been.

I'm confused... is the proposed tower in the rendering an MB housing project? I thought the MB Housing lots were the 2 to the south, in between Mayfair and River, and this tower was some other development...

I can envision the jingle for this building's sale's material already: "Mayfair you got just what I need!"

That was my understanding. I thought Manitoba Housing was getting out of the direct service delivery game altogether and handing off their properties to nonprofits... at this point I think they'd only be funding new projects driven by other organizations, not building new ones themselves?

This project is by WRE Developments. They have built numerous condo developments around Winnipeg.

WRE Development office are nearby across the street and they use this lot presently for parking. YES a surface parking lot overlooking Ass River! The reason for so many parking spots is for them to use.

The only reason I asked is because the discussion started to include Manitoba Housing and I wasn't sure if it had become part of the development.

Does it annoy you that I asked?

It was all doom and gloom that it was MB housing and needed to be cancelled. When the thread is 2 pages long and says who the project is being led by.

Seems every thread is full of arguing over peoples opinions. The forum has become less interesting to me recently. This thread is 2 pages long and I'm done with it already.

To answer your question, no it doesn't annoy me. But it takes 2 seconds to check.

I did check (just to reassure you). But again, I wasn't sure where MH fit in as it was being discussed all of a sudden. so I asked, and got my response. Done and dusted.

Sorry to have "irked" you
