^^^that Neighborhood is called "Northern Liberties" It's one of the older neighborhoods in Philly. It has a very active nightlife and is a neighborhood that you will see alot of experimental Architecture.

i love this buildings design based on the initial renderings. its like a more modernized version of the Columbia Seafirst Center in Seattle (one of my favorite skyscrapers). yeah, a spire would be awesome and no doubt bring Philadelphia its first thousand footer. not beat a dead horse, but if that ultimately becomes the case, Liberty Property and/or Comcast may somewhat regret not building the Comcast Center over 1000'. just my thoughts...

Inga is the Simon Cowell of architecture critics: unqualified to make any judgements, but the ones she does make she makes unnecessarily negative (at least when it comes to Philadelphia buildings. New York buildings, different story) because she thinks that makes it look like she's doing her job.

I read Inga Saffron's blog and I really can't think of many other architecture and city writers who are on that level (Paul Golderberger comes to mind). Philadelphia is lucky to have her.

There's a problem in forum's like this with people like myself. We come across as snobbish and elitist. We love cities more than tall building. In other words we want the best architecture, best planning, best preservation, and best outcomes. It's not just in your city, either. It's every city.

Philadelphia is already a great city and can afford to put up dreck like Symphony House. Still, you want to do better. You want to compete with New York, Boston, San Francisco and Chicago. If you're competing with Atlanta, Dallas and Houston, you're missing the point. You aspire upward, not sideways.

I live in Phoenix, which has a rivalry with Philadelphia because of population numbers. We're a young city, sprawling and incoherent. The sorry truth is that we're not even as good a city as Jacksonville. Philadelphia is as good as Phoenix is hopeless.

At any rate, I read these threads because I root for Philly. I want the new projects to make your city denser, livelier, and more prosperous. I also want to see great architecture, not just tall for the sake of tall. My advice is don't settle for mediocre. Yeah, I'm a snob, but I love your city.

I do think the vast majority root quality first. I have a problem with some of the new projects, some I think are decent, and others I think are amazing. With modern architecture, I believe Philadelphia is going where few are in a positive way. The neighborhood that this tower is going in, Northern Liberties, is becoming one of the most architectually diverse neighborhoods in North America. It has a mix of civil war era, turn of the century, and uber modern. Or take something like the Cira Centre. Cira is a skyscraper that is not only quality first but it doesn't need excessive height to be impressive. Its an innovative piece of art that shows the already very strong Philadelphia skyline move westward. We have one of densest cities in the country and we on this forum want it to grow even denser but in the smartest way possible. One reason why Center City works so well is that its a balance of low, mid, & high - rise structures. Alright I'm rambling...I'll stop.

Not to mention some nice Colonial and Federal Era structure. NoLibs is an outstanding neighborhood and small wonder why it's growing so fast. Plus it has those famous crooked streets Philly is famous for.

Bridgeman's View is in the most recent PCN. Turner Construction is the GC. Subcontractor bids by mid 2007. So it looks like construction beginning in the fall is a possibility.

I'm really excited about this building since I bought a home in the NoLibs area recently. But according to the folks I know at Turner, there is not currently a signed contract with this developer. That doesn't mean there won't be, but there just isn't one yet. Anyone know any details about configurations, layouts, prices, etc...?

I think its because the shrubs look like palm trees and I can't think of many streets like Delaware Ave in Philly with the tree-lined median strip. The Ben Franklin is another wide street but it takes a density poo once it ends downtown.
