No, officially it is still go. It is about to finally be above ground level (the Wachovia complex goes 7 floors under ground.) The first 6 floors will be part of the Mint Museum.

Awww shucks, I miss the mark by one floor only making my residence on the 49th floor of Part Tower Condominium in Chicago.

Like Chicagoguy said, Chicago has oddles of choices when it comes to high-floor living. my building is about 5 miles north of the Hancock building and still tips the scales at 55 floors and ~500'...

Can't do it in Fort Lauderdale. ...You can get yourself a penthouse in the Las Olas River House that occupies floor 42 and 43, though.

So the only cities in the US where it can be done now are New York, Chicago, Miami and .....Sunny Isles Beach?

Interesting fact: (per Emporis) Only 16 of the top 100 highest all-residential buildings are in the U.S. Of those, Chicago/NYC comprise 15. The one exception being SF.

DC area residential towers top out at 30 floors (multiple options in Rosslyn). Though Baltimore has higher office towers, it doesn't offer anything substantially taller on the residential side.

Denver's residential buildings top out in the mid 40s. Almost 50, but not quite.
