Fresh survey markings at the corner of 20th Street 10th Avenue South on the Makario's Resturant property and fresh survey test drill holes. This site is across from the construction site for the new student housing project on the old Break Pool Hall site.

In an article today's AL.com it was stated that demolition of the Southtown housing project on 26 acres at University Blvd and Red Mountain Expressway between St. Vincent's and U.A.B. will begin in the summer or fall of 2020.

A better question would be; I wonder if Hollywood will pull out of Georgia?

What are you, 15? Why do you feel the need to provoke our neighbors, especially when we have zero reason to thump our chests over anything related to this Bill.

It's a bad look, and extremely juvenile.

And I knew that, but he caught me off guard. Thanks to Nautica and AtlantaGuy for their responses.

bigstick has been warned before about trolling Birmingham threads. Complaints will be made again if their demeanor warrants it.

Parkside and 5 Points are the residential hotspots of late. This is right behind Baker's Row (towards I-65)... not far from the Denham Building.

Large apartment development in works for Parkside

A 268-unit apartment development is tapped for a prime site near Railroad Park and Regions Field.

Birmingham's Design Review Committee this week gave conceptual approval for a planned multifamily development at 1204 First Ave. S. Novare Group, a commercial real estate firm based in Atlanta, will develop the project with architect Niles Bolton Associates providing design. The developers will have to come back for materials and signage approvals at a later date.

DRC documents show the development would consist of two buildings as well as a parking garage on site with approximately 344 spaces. The two buildings would each be five stories tall and contain studio, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments. The average unit size is 777 square feet.

Ground was broken on this project last week.

yep. demolition of the existing buildings has begun. they're calling it "Foundry Yards". i'll be glad when the others break ground too... anyone know if all those utility poles in that area will be buried? i didn't realize how cluttered it looked until i drove around today. that plus the removal of the concrete plant would make a world of difference.

Nice Pics TimCity!!! On another front, Makarios on 20th and 10th Avenue S, there are fresh survey marking on their property as well drilled test holes. It does not look like the small building in back at the alley down 10th is included. Hopefully what ever is happening there, it will be included.

Thanks, Tim, for the great visual updates!

I'm really starting to get concerned about the 3rd phase of the 20 Midtown development! A month or so ago, they were actively working to establish a stable foundation for the development, but I haven't seen ANY work at the site for a long while. I hope their just waiting to accrue enought tenants to warrant full construction. If that's not the case, with this dry (albeit hot) weather, they're missing a great opportunity to get some good work in.

BTW, the Five Points S tower is going vertical! There are reinforced concrete columns pointing to the sky. I still do not understand how they will accomodate residents with automobiles, but then again, maybe they're not anticipating residents who own vehicles.

Anyway, some great construction going on south of the tracks!
