Apparently business has been affected by lack of parking now that the JAG Hotel is there now.
I hope that is just a rumour or at the very least they are going to set up in a new location. I have gift certificates from there !
They usually close for the a month or so during the winter, hopefully they are just late reopening. You would think business would improve with a hotel next door.

This one on Prescott is where I was wondering about. https://www.google.ca/maps/@47.56672...OEQQEZ7nhA!2e0

(That lot would be great for development)
In case it helps the discussion, here's the City brochure.

The Merchant Tavern

The Merchant Tavern, by the same owners of Raymonds, is confirmed to go to 291 Water Street, where the Press & Bean was.

Something great to look forward to I am sure!

Yes, that would be a prime spot for a small scale development. You could quite easily (with a lot of crushing of rock..ha..ha) hide two levels of parking under some condos or offices. There is another spot, just east of there, that I wish I could get my hands on (for $1 of course) to develop into something three or four stories. There is no reason you should ever have surface parking anywhere in the downtown core, the space is too valuable.

You could have a small development there with retail facing Duckworth and then attached housing going up Prescott.

Noticed the new signage recently for The Fish Bowl restaurant and bar in the downtown Marriott that replaced Smitty's. Has anyone checked it out yet? Im not a lover of anything fish so it's unlikely I will ever eat there but was curious how it was there just the same.

Especially if they're serving fish bowels...lol! Sorry, I realize it's a typo but I had to go there.

My roommate works there but I haven't actually asked her about the food. Jeddy says they have a lobster poutine though!

Hehe. Agreed about the Prescott parking lot. Fantastic little spot.

Can't wait for the new poor man's Raymond's.

Just noticed that The KEG restaurant has an application in the council agenda for renovations to 125 Harbour Drive. If I am not mistaken that is the old Legros & Motti location. Jack Astors is also listed at that same building. The original Keg is listed at 135 Harbour Drive. I guess the rumour is true that the Keg is moving next door then.

Figured that would happen. That space is beautiful, though I was only there once and never got a good look of the entire space.

The Keg could use a lot more room. Not only is it super busy all the time but it's cramped upstairs, especially around the bar area. I can't remember the bar area at Legros and Motti though.

I heard that the Keg space will become a Kelsey's. I do know that Kelseys are looking for interested parties in St. John's (according to their website) to run a franchise here.

The Overcast has a recent article about The Merchant Tavern ( http://theovercast.ca/raymonds-found...rchant-tavern/ ). The bar will be a prominent feature, with seating for about forty, compared to about five at Raymonds. The drink menu will feature classic cocktails, craft beers, and aperitifs. The restaurant will offer casual food such as handmade pasta and seafood.

A sign in the window on 291 Water St suggests a June 1 openning.

Can't wait to try this.

Also, it looks as though Tavola is closed.
