I have mixed views on the location of the Indigo Ridge development - not for "nimby" reasons, either. While New Hope is being extended to Sam Bass, and 1431/Whitestone is obviously a major thoroughfare, neither New Hope nor Sam Bass are huge roads. I supposed this could be built and spur on development that could replace the industrial stuff between there and Lamar, creating more of a cohesive chunk of mixed-use development, potentially as far as 1890 Ranch, but for now it seems a bit isolated.

But, for what it's worth, here's a concept plan that I found. Maybe someone could add the pic from this link to the thread:

Yeah. I know Fredericksburg isn't part of the metro, but it is our "extended" vacation spot. Someone from the forum from out of state was visiting Austin last November and asked me what places Austinites like to go to "weekend" "vacation". Fredericksburg and Kerrville were two of the places I thought of.

I’d also add Marble Falls.

Yeah, but at least Marble Falls is in Burnet County, which is part of CAMPO. I'm fine with Fredricksburg being mentioned, I'm just giving Kevin a hard time...because this thread needs more discussion anyway!

That said, it's cool to see Fredricksburg getting a convention center and hotel. Marble Falls, ironically, also has one in the works by the lake. It'll be good for business for those two towns.

Kalahari is going vertical. 4 cranes are up. Kind of reminds me a little when Dell Medical Center had all those cranes. It really looks impressive driving east on 79 and seeing these four cranes towering over what used to be acres of farm land in the middle of practically nowhere except for the Dell Diamond across the street. I'll tell you this isn't something you see everyday especially in that neck of the woods. I wish someone here could grab some pics to share. I'm not savvy enough.

High-rise apartment complex to change San Marcos skyline in 2020

Quote:
First proposed in 2008 as a three-story building, Concho Commons is now expected to be constructed as a 13-story building in San Marcos by 2020.

On the northern edge of downtown San Marcos, Concho Commons will be a multiuse development on approximately 1.46 acres, just a block from Texas State University’s campus.

Along with retail space, offices and a parking garage, a total of 585 bedrooms will make up the 310-unit building complex. The project also includes plans for a higher-quality water system, a state-of-the-art fire protection system and street beautification. Concho Commons’ front facade will face north toward the university along Concho Street, while the rear facade will face downtown, according to San Marcos Director of Communications Kristy Stark.

When first proposed in 2008, the development reflected San Marcos’ shifting focus to grow within the downtown area, according to the 2008 Neighborhood Identity and Placemaking analysis, which at the time saw a boom in development along the I-35 corridor and less commerce and development downtown. The building project has grown by 10 stories in the past 10 years since it was first brought to the city.

Ed Theriot, a consultant working on the project, said units at Concho Commons will be available by-the-bedroom, which is often how student apartments are leased, and by-the-unit, which is generally more common in single-family developments. Two-thirds of the apartment units are expected to be one or two bedrooms.

Concho Commons can potentially attract 800 new shoppers, diners and general consumers as full-time residents of downtown San Marcos with adequate on-site parking provided, Theriot said.

Developers Casey Development Ltd., a San Antonio commercial real estate company, recently began construction of Concho Commons at the vacant plot between North LBJ Drive and North Guadalupe Street. It will be among San Marcos’ tallest buildings once the project is complete in 2020.

Nice. That area of the metro around the Kalahari Resort is relatively flat (not very hilly), so seeing those cranes there must be a sight.

I went to go update my list, along with the building's page in the SSP database, and it was listed as 15 floors at one point. Also, I had a note about it being 128 feet at the 13 floor proposed height.

If you're not going tall, go massive. That's an impressive building, and interesting looking to boot. Great addition for San Marcus.

Interesting looking? Meh, looks like a suburban hotel.
