Any Russians I know consider themselves European, even though a large part of Russia lies est of the "traditional" boundary between Europe and Asia: the
Ural Mountains, and contain large cities like Novosibirsk, the largest city in Siberia.

Most Russians - Ukrainians as well - come from large cities west of the Ural mountains and in the cultural context want very much to think of themselves as European.
