Looks like the sale of the Havana Inn is going to happen.

http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblog...main-open.html

Quote:
The Havana Riverwalk Inn's current owner Theresa Greer confirmed that Club Cohiba, the hotel's basement bar, will remain Club Cohiba even after the hotel is sold. She also acknowledged the hotel and bar would close for renovation once the sale is final.

As for Cohiba's last night before renovation?

"That's kind of depending on the closing," Greer said. "I know we're open right now, probably a couple more weeks. I know there's gonna be some renovation. There's some ventilation changes and that's why it will be closed for a while."

As reported previously in this blog, Austin-based Bunkhouse Management LLC is the potential buyer. Neither Greer nor Bunkhouse are divulging specifics of the sale or plans for the Havana, 1015 Navarro, going forward. Understandable considering the sale isn't final.

The good news here is that Club Cohiba will remain open. It's arguably locals' favorite hotel bar. As to the extend of the renovation, I'm hoping to get specifics next week.

Hopefully, the bar will retain most of its current look and feel. Bunkhouse is known for its outside-the-box hotel concepts.

San Antonio, and hoping to get a response soon.

Right side of this pic should fill out nicely in the next 5 years. The Justice Center expansion might not add much to the skyline, but between that, the new Fed courthouse and the new SAPD hq's, it will definitely add to the density in that part of town. I just hope that all the new construction will rid the area of all the surface lots. 10 floors for the new Fed Courthouse will add nicely in that space.

BTW, the IHOP Cafe is finally getting finished out. Shouldn't be too long for opening.
Marti's has put up signage and is opening up on Commerce.
Emabassy Suites is on the 6th floor. I'll take some pics soon, maybe this weekend.

That is true, attendance numbers have always been low for the Marlins. Even with all their success over the years. Miami is a much larger metro than San Antonio. I’m still surprised Miami isn’t a bigger baseball town than it is. Talk has been around for years about moving the Marlins. But nothing ever happens. Once the Expos went to D.C a few years ago, it did knock one city of the list of possible relocations… As much as id love to see a MLB team in San Antonio. I just don’t know how successful it would be. We at least need a AAA league team, to test the waters before we set our sight on the MLB. But I see what your saying.

O trust me I’m the same way. I can only enjoy sports in person. I watch the NBA here and there and especially when the Spurs are in the running, but as far as the NFL, NHL, MLB etc never watch them on Tv. Unless it’s the Super bowl etc

Here is an outsiders thoughts on our city.

http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblog...deal-city.html

"I wonder: What is San Antonio's best attribute? The Tex-Mex Cuisine? The Missions? The River Walk? And how do we build upon them, especially with such large blank canvases as HemisFair Park, River North and to some extent Houston Street?

Byrne goes on to list qualities essential to a city's livability. You can have some fun with the list by seeing how these qualities apply to the Alamo City.

First on Byrne's list is Size: "Size guarantees anonymity — if you make an embarrassing mistake in a large city, and it's not on the cover of the Post, you can probably try it again." Might not apply to us. It's difficult to refute our label as the largest small town in America. Especially downtown — six degrees of separation is more like two or three.

One obvious attribute to strive for is Density. We're a long way from there. Some of Byrne's perfect city attributes we seem to have down pat: Sensibility and Attitude."

It's a nice pic, but where is the GH?

I plan to take a shot from this location, and photoshop the GH in the picture, right next to the TLB. Just waiting for the right day, yesterday was perfect, but the location that this image was taken from was probably closed on Sunday. Maybe Today!

I take classes at UTSA Downtown Campus every Tuesday and Thursday. There are some great views from those buildings.

I noticed today that the sign with a picture of a condo at the vacant lot at Josephine and Broadway has a web address. I logged on and saw this rendering.

It's refreshing to see SA finally getting some mid-rise residentials in and around downtown to go along with all the sprawl.

That's right beside the Pearl. Nice to see more residential in/around River North.

Does anyone have a pic of how the shade canopies turned out in Main Plaza? the only one i've seen was the one pic in the DT Blog a while back. Also, how's the work on the Ihop Cafe going...cause if I live DT like I want to next year I have a feeling I may be going there more than I should

Not sure about Main Plaza, I think work is still going on.
The IHOP Cafe has a few 'now hiring' signs around.
I'll be taking pics tomorrow. I'll check it out.

Yahoo.com (Home Page)

The SA skyline is on the front page of Yahoo.com today.
The story is about America's strongest economies.
Nice picture, it's from the Drury Hotel.

I noticed today that the old dealership across from the Broadway Lofts is in the process of being demolished.
