They should really give some thought to player satisfaction. Happy workers are productive workers. If Austin FC players are spending every weekday stuck in traffic in an ugly part of town, they're not going to want to play in Austin for very long.

I still think they should build the practice facility somewhere in West Austin, somewhere along 360.

Leslie Pool wants to look into a new tax district to help fund the Broadmore and Austin FC Red Line Stations. It's not a bad idea. Item is on council agenda for the 14th.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN:
The City Manager is directed to work with Capital Metro on the completion of the Broadmoor Rail Station and the McKalla Place Rail Station, assessing various public financing options that can leverage private development and funding, including conducting a feasibility and financial analysis of the creation of a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone District, or other value capture financing tools, and provide a memo to Council with the findings of the analysis by January 2020.

Seems like something they could have been looking at, oh, for the two years or so Broadmore was working through zoning.

Though it's a reasonable idea, and though I knock Pool at every opportunity (usually with good reason) it's good that she's at least getting behind this.

Austin FC to build $45 million training facility in Northeast Austin

Quote:
The standards are rising in Major League Soccer, and the leaders of Austin FC are determined to meet them.

On Wednesday, ownership group Two Oak Ventures unveiled a major building block in that mission, with details and renderings for a $45 million training facility, called the St. David’s Performance Center, that will sit on 23 acres in Northeast Austin.

The center, home to Austin FC and its academy teams, will encompass four full-size soccer fields along with 30,000 square feet where players, coaches and other soccer operations staff will work, train, eat, watch film, recover and receive medical care. It is scheduled to be completed in time for the team’s first regular-season MLS match in the spring of 2021.

The center, which will be part of the future Parmer Pond development, will be privately funded by Two Oak Ventures, with the $45 million price tag for land and infrastructure in a partnership with Karlin Real Estate. Karlin’s Parmer Pond will be a mixed-use development within a 300-acre campus that has Fortune 500 tenants such as 3M, General Motors and Home Depot.

The training facility will be on the east side of the development, bordered by Harris Ridge Boulevard in between Parmer Lane and Howard Lane, and one mile east of Interstate 35. It’s only five miles from where the Austin FC stadium is being constructed near the Domain.

This is going to end up being a brilliant location. It's right by a number of huge corporate office buildings (Home Depot, 3M, Facebook, Samsung, Dell, GM, HID) with more on the way. And a lot of those office workers will head over there to check it out with their kids.

It anchors them squarely in the North Austin community. It will pay dividends for them, no doubt.

Sucks for the players who have to take Parmer to get to work though. God I hate Parmer.

I'm going to create a new thread for this project.
