Completely agree, the team does not need to be called Manitoba anything, it's a Winnipeg based team that should reflect that in it's name!

Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal all recognize the city they play in not the province!

I hope its the Winnipeg Jets.

I hate teams named after the province/state. I also like tradition. The Winnipeg Jets may not have won any Cups, but they already have legions of fans. I don't see how a new name will attract any new fans.

As far as I know they are not proposing to call the relocated team the "Thrashers" either... so yes they would not be interested in this name as well for the same (and I'm sure other) reasons.

The Canucks are obviously named for the city in which they reiside, but the whole province cheers for them. Alberta is also split between the Flames and Oilers, so naming your team after the province isn't necessary to cater to the fans outside the city.

A tribute to the province, same with the Canadian flag.

Toronto Maple Leafs have fans outside of Ontario. I mean, they must if HNIC is always broadcasting their games before all others. So, I don't think it matters if the team is named for the city or the province.

I didn't like it at first, but it doesn't bother me so much now.

Yeah, I don't like the flag patches on the Flames jerseys. The colors are too different, making them stick out like a sore thumb.

Kind of like those ads you see puked all over European hockey jerseys or something. They aren't bad jerseys, but they should lose the flag patches.

Nice to see almost-big league hockey coming back to the Maritimes/Atlantic Canada too.

3,500 people bought season tickets for three year commitments over the weekend for the yet to be named St. John's team, and the only people allowed to buy tickets were those who have had either season tickets to the Maple Leafs or Fog Devils when they were here. Mile One Centre doesn't have 7,000 seats.
