Maybe you find it too much to experience it, but it’s still one of the most beautiful set you ever posted. Bravo!

I’ve Got Some Winnipeg Photos (Sorry for the Quality)

Some pictures I took last summer.

Portage Avenue

True North Square’s fountain. Sutton Place was under construction

Just as usual beautiful Exchange District stuff

Graham avenue. Looking at True North Square apartments from CityPlace and the skywalk to MTS Centre

Looking from the Exchange District at Richardson Building, standing since 1969

Restored Fortune Block, new place for Livestock

Best terracotta in the city (?), the Lindsay building. It’s been an apartment building since the 1980s.

I always love seeing the Montreal ones but usually with Halifax I feel as self conscious and self deprecating as if it's pictures of me. But in those the city actually looks pretty tight and dense!

And yet as a Haligonian you live in one of Canada's better medium-sized cities in terms of classic urbanity and vibrancy IMO.

Halifax has some nice neighbourhoods that don't appear on here much. I think its "strength" relative to most other Canadian cities is in the old (~Pre-Confederation, before streetcars when people mostly walked) parts of the urban core, like what's pictured above. Areas like Falkland-Maynard or Schmidtville.

Another interesting factor is that Halifax is much more open to development than most other similarly historic cities in the developed world. It's a double-edged sword in that sometimes there are mistakes and buildings get torn down when they shouldn't but on the whole the trend is strongly positive and even these old areas have a lot of potential. In Quebec City or Saint John or the New England cities the old areas mostly feel like they are preserved in amber. You get what you get and in growing cities those areas become more and more gentrified and unaffordable. In Halifax you might get a narrow glass tower shoehorned in behind a stone mansion built in 1810.

That's my take on it as well. Halifax and I have at least some history together, and I am always impressed every time I go back.
