The groundbreaking was supposed to happen early 2022. Then it got pushed to April 2022. Now it's pushed to July 2022. Frustrating, but at least it's something good, a TOD with no parking minimums and required unbundled parking!

Now SANDAG please oh please forget about subsidizing free transit and save up that money to instead increase Green Line frequencies as soon as possible. Otherwise everyone at Riverwalk will drive for short trips within Mission Valley because no one's waiting 15 minutes for a 10-15 minute Trolley ride.

That's a great perspective of the RaDD! That video also highlights how much of Seaport Village is underutilized as surface parking.

Thanks for posting this! I drove by this site the other day and went on Google maps to try to find where it was. It took me awhile to realize it was 800 Broadway I was looking at, which will be a nice-sized building once complete. That whole part of the eastern core (Broadway to B Street) is really going to be dense once all these projects are complete. The recently-completed Diega development next door is also huge.

A Tijuana developer has started construction on a $66 million medical building that looks to take advantage of the medical tourism trade.

Cosmopolitan Group, known mostly for residential and hotel building in the city, said the 33-story building could be completed as soon as 2025. In addition to the medical facilities, the complex will include a hotel for visiting patients and families.

The new building, called Cosmopolitan Health District, will compete with the NewCity Medical Plaza, a 26-story complex that opened in 2020, with doctors’ offices, a medical lab, a surgery center and a 140-room hotel. NewCity, developed by Abadi Group, is only about 3,000 feet from the border — easily viewable from the American side and within walking distance of the border. Cosmopolitan Health is just under two miles, requiring a taxi or ride-hailing service to get there, but it is in an area with a lot more to do, possibly appealing more to affluent Mexicans.

Both projects are aimed at medical care for wealthier residents of the city and for Americans who many times have health insurance but find procedures cheaper in Mexico. There are also a lot of plastic surgery options and a few procedures that might find greater scrutiny in the United States.

Cosmopolitan Health will feature three floors of below-ground parking and 10 floors above ground. The emergency room will be on the first few levels, with 200 medical suites and 160 hotel rooms from a Residence Inn by Marriott that make up the top half of the complex. Cosmopolitan decided to sell 150 suites directly to doctors (not investors) for an average $166,500 for a roughly 490-square-foot medical suite. Saul said 60 percent have sold. The other 50 suites will be rentals.

Cosmopolitan Health will add to a growing list of skyscrapers that have transformed the city in the last decade. In addition to Cosmopolitan Health and Sayan Campestre (both around 404 feet), NewCity Medical Plaza is 387 feet and two residential towers under construction will join the list of the city’s tallest buildings: Link Residential (393 feet) and The Landmark Tijuana (390 feet).

“The city is growing incredibly quickly,” said Chris Clark, director of the Urban Land Institute’s San Diego-Tijuana branch. “The city is definitely going vertical.”

Wow, seriously? VERY underwhelming. Those buildings look like they're straight out of the UTC area. All the time, effort, and money to redevelop this land and this is what you end up with? It's hard to believe.

The pedestrian plaza runs North/South, parallel to Harbor Dr. & Pacific Hwy. per the marketing brochure. https://retailinsite.net/downloads/Downtown_RaDD.pdf

I'm curious which will be more true to final product, the 3D model or the marketing material. I don't find either disappointing, especially considering what could have been if they built the original Manchester Pacific Gateway designs.

Yeah I was definitely getting UTC vibes from the new designs, but I think the massing hasn't changed from what was originally proposed. I definitely dislike the building directly in front of the Navy HQ. The one to the left isn't great either, but at least it has height. They are both incredibly awkward looking. Why not give them an undulating, but modern, wavy facade to match its waterfront location?

Just in time for the economic collapse that is finally starting. I guess they will say "well we will build it during this depression and by the time it finally opens we will be coming out of it".

Obviously tech is getting hammered how do you guys think the Horton Plaza project will be affected by this? Will they get tenants

Well Amazon did announce 700 new jobs in San Diego a couple of weeks ago, taking up the old Sears site at the UTC mall.

I've been to Tijuana 80+ times over the last 20 years and I was guessing that one day, Tijuana Centro was going to be gentrified, which I hate to see happening as I love Tijuana just the way it is. And when I saw there's 2 high rises going up on Revolution, near the Jai Alai stadium, my guess has been quite correct.

Amazingly, this is the first reference I’ve seen, anywhere, to a prospective economic collapse, or at least the sort of economic conditions that would lead to a wholesale cancellation/delay of projects.

Of course I thought the pan-panic, of the last two years, would have the same effect. And boy was I wrong about that.

Tuesday, City Council members will vote on whether to allocate another $27.3 million from downtown-specific funds to the now $79.6 million project. The action, if approved, tees up construction to start in August on the first phase of East Village Green, or 2 acres of public park amenities, including downtown’s first recreation center.

Per the updated timeline, the project should be completed in February 2025.

The latest ask, which does not include money from the city’s general fund, comes 2.5 years after the council approved a $52.3 million budget for the park. Since then, the city has worked to secure permits. In late 2021, Civic San Diego solicited bids for construction.

“Both qualifying bids blew the budget significantly,” said Christina Bibler, who is the city’s director of economic development and noted that increases to construction costs over time were to blame. “It was a shock to everyone. It was much more excessive than we had ever expected.”

I saw this one pop up on a Vintage San Diego facebook group (they were very upset, with the feeling reflected in the second image). But I really like it. Located at 301 Spruce Street, it's 162 units with ground-level commercial. 17-stories, 180+ feet

I don't have any problems with the project itself but I think it would be better if there were a higher % of affordable units allocated.
