I love chicago. The grid system can be boring, yes i can agree with that. But when you have a grid as large and as impressive as chicago's, It is isnt boring. It is outstanding that they were able to keep the grid and build it as large as the city of chicago has. It is the largest grided city in the world, for people who didnt know. What I like about the grid though is how many poeple can fit into one. Chicago is not much larger than toronto and yet is has millions of more people than toronto has.

Anywho... I like the grid, whenit gets to be this large.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Toronto were built on a grid too. At least from CN tower it looks like a microchip. May it be that Chicago is taller on average?

The grid system, while terribly boring as such, surely is impressive seen in situations like this!
That picture looks intensely alien.

I have difficulty showing the great grid system of Phoenix at night because of the pesky buttes and mountains in the way, but here are a couple of nice pics I found:

Leaving honolulu at night has left the biggest impression on my night time flights. Lots of the residental areas are built in and out of the hills and valleys of the island. At night time it truly gives the effect of lava flowing down the mountains. I did try to take a picture of it but it was blurtopia and not worth showing to anyone. I can't find any other pictures on the net of it either.

If you look closely you can see the borders of the city of Chicago by the change in lighting from the brighter City street lights to the dimmer lights of the near suburbs. Especially apparent along the left and bottom left of the image.

On the left you can see the long notch in the western border of the city of Chicago. The lights there are a little greyish/greenish. You can see where the Yellowish city lights jut out west near Midway and reach as far as Harlem rd.

That's also why it takes so freaking long to get anywhere, and we have some of the most horrid traffic in the country. I personally hate the grid (although that picture does look amazing!) for its awful inefficiency. You can't tell me that traveling 30+% more distance to get anywhere is a good thing! (Using the hypotenuse of a triangle theorem)

It is apparently good for fire fighting.

Cool

From ITSkyline blog: http://itskylineblog.blogspot.com/20...f-chicago.html

This one you can make out the whole skyline and see that Chicago has some diagonal streets as well.
