Nice shot, I hate that most of the time the Grand Hyatt has to cover up the Marriott, I don't feel like we gained a new High rise building, it just seems like
we tore the Marriott down and built a new one.

Even from views from the North, Marriott is surrounded by the Hyatt that you
can't even notice that the Marriott is in front.

Also any word on the hotel that would replace the Rivercenter mall parking garage?
I didn't take that picture so I'm not sure where it was taken from. Yeah, GH does block out the marriott from the north and south....the skyline from every other direction looks fine though

Nice shots. Thanks for getting the Vidorra in the first one. In the second one, the Tower and hotels make an interesting little cluster.

Knowing there are crazy people on our highways taking pictures while driving scares me.

Driving and taking Photos

Since I love to take photos, I once spent a summer photographing all the miles of highways in San Antonio. Half of them, I had a friend drive, the other half while driving, its easy, I have a Canon 5D, set the zoom, and focus, and thats it, hold the camera in one hand, the other on the stearing wheel, and fire. If the photographs come out a little crooket, you can fix it in photoshop to look perfect.

I love taking pictures too...sometimes though I feel like the camera ends up enjoying what I'm looking at more than I do...sometimes when you're taking pictures, especially from the road, it's hard to soak up the stuff yourself.

thats a profound statement, really.

often we get so focused on capturing moments of our lives on film (or the digital equivalent) that we forget to actually live the moment ourselves. imagine a dad recording his sons first goal in soccer but never really enjoying it because he was so focused trying to get the right angle.

sometimes, we put the camera down and take deep breaths. and sometimes its better that way.

Someone should buy a helicopter so he/she could take pictures from high above overlooking the city.

I wonder how much a helicopter would cost.
That would be great if there were any on sale right now....or maybe a coupon.

Did anybody notice during the spurs/lakers games that during the games broadcast there was some great shots of L.A.. Those pictures were most likely taken from a helicopter. I wish I had one.

We'll pool our money on a helicopter and some good cameras.

Does anyone know how many people live downtown? It can't be more than a few thousand.

edit: http://www.fanniemaefoundation.org/p...s_notes_3.html

They say downtown SA had a downtown population of 22,000 in 2000, which makes it the largest downtown population behind Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Baltimore. I'm not sure of what they defined as downtown.

Then downtown would be more populous than India and China combined

O.k this question was asked 2 days ago by the model but was never answered. . . . whats the status on the hotel being talked about to replace the rivercenter parking garage?

It's scheduled for construction during Phase II of the Rivercenter Mall redevelopment, and is likely in the design process.

Just insert a Ritz or Four Seasons hotel of about 25-30 stories - being conservative, since it is a NY developer - between the Marriotts and the left edge of that picture

Right there is going to get pretty dense. I still think Marriott should demolish its old Riverwalk hotel and build a new, much nicer one in its place.

Seems like the blueprint for real density in that area of downtown is build something (much) taller where the Chamber of Commerce building is currently, then West of Alamo along Commerce St replace some of those parking garages (I think there's about three of them in a row) with something about 15-20 stories. This would better bridge the "gap" in the skyline and create more real density, agreed?
