This just looks cheap.
It looks much better now that the temporary ones are gone.

I wish it was a mixed used building with housing also. Plus, I think the building is quite ugly with its design. Could be a lot better.

I like it. I just wish there were more variety in color and some masonry in the Soma skyline.

here's the 'leftover' area to the east of the building, which I think I remember is to be landscaped somehow, with maybe some assorted amenities?

and what it looks like from the south these days

The balconies and sudden massing change halfway through the tower ruin the building IMO, but otherwise it looks fair.

I think the gradient of the diagonal edge is too subtle, which kind of ruins the overall composition. If the angle were more pronounced, it might work. But the way it ended up, it just looks awkward. Like a teenager that hasn't fully grown into his or her body.

Agreed ^ The diagonal is awkward. They should have just gone for it. Those huge balconies are pretty cool though. Wasn't there originally going to be steel bracing on them?

No--the bracing was temporary (but people here complained about the look of it anyway) though there seems to be one very thin metal pole at the corners of the balconies that's staying (you can barely see them on the photos).

They are better seen here:

As to the look of the building overall: This is interesting to me. I said way back with the early renderings I didn't much care for the sloping facade and got slammed for saying so. Now lots of people are coming out of the closet and saying it.

Maybe they were giving it the benefit of the doubt, before deeming it a bad design?

That’s a really excellent capture gillynova and the building actually looks interestingly good from that angle. It also looked very good as I was crossing the Bay Bridge while driving back from the the Central Valley yesterday before sunset.

Ha, That's how this forum goes sometimes...

I remember back with the new WTC was actually starting construction I remember asking, "What are the chances that all 4 of these towers are built as designed within ten years? I'd say pretty low." And I was nearly crucified, lol. Well now look where things are....

I still mostly like the sloping part, as I always did. My feeling is that the bottom and top look rather clunky together, particularly on the south side.

Interesting FB going with a random "galaxy" painting when all of Salesforce's lobbies feature a LED display wall.
