I don't ever recall visiting Bee Cave, but they apparently have some stuff going on there. From GDA:

That wasn't going on the last time I was there earlier this year. Bee Cave at one time did have a 12-story hotel planned that was later chopped to 6 floors. It was part of the Hill Country Galleria. There was a rendering of it in the American-Statesman back then. It was blue glass and had a curved facade from what I remember. I probably have a newspaper clipping of it somewhere. I checked my renderings folder on my computer and didn't see it in there.

Kalahari Resorts is quite visible from 45 at I35 to just passed Louis Henna going east and is quite impressive in scale. From 79 it is one of the biggest projects I've seen in and around Austin. Its quite amazing that its being built here. Notice the over-use of the word "quite"? I just did. OK....you can file this in your who gives a shit pile.

I like the design and all, but I still don't understand why any architect thinks a glass box, especially without any kind of solar shading, is a good idea in TEXAS. And that goes for skyscrapers downtown too.

Many modern office buildings are built with dynamic glass or similar products. It is transparent, but there is a micro-layer between the panes that blocks UV light and solar heat gain while allowing visible light in. There's no need for a reflective coating. The downside is that you can see inside the building from the street during the day, so if you push furniture up against the windows or have your mini-blinds all at different levels, it can make your building look a bit messy from the outside.

Edited to add: Here's a picture of Indeed's NW buildings (which I posted on another thread a while ago) which were built with dynamic glass. You can see the blinds and furniture in the second picture.

Looks like they are stockpiling sections of the water slides/chutes at the bottom-right corner?

And, the indoor waterpark building looks enormous...

When I worked for Goldman our office had automatic shades that moved themselves based on time of day and some kind of light sensor. So on an overcast day the blinds were open, if the sun hit your side of the building they would automatically close.

It was neat, but I'm guessing not cheap.

Yeah, those are pieces for the water slides and such, baking away in the sun. Its hard to see from pictures just how huge this place is going to be. Because of where its located, they had to go big or not at all. Every time I drive by it on 79, my jaw drops.

Here are some pictures of the Seven Oaks project of off Bee Caves Road next to Westlake Dermatology. It includes two suburban office buildings totaling 280,000 square feet. One of the buildings is preleased to Abbott Labs. https://imgur.com/a/oPDg4yN

Mandatory evacuation ordered for apartments in San Marcos

Published 3 hours agoSan MarcosFOX 7 Austin

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The City of San Marcos has issued a mandatory evacuation for the 162 residents of the Vie Lofts apartment complex.

The apartments are located at 817 Chestnut Street. The evacuations were ordered by the San Marcos Fire Marsall in response to safety concerns about building stability and means of egress, according to the city. City staff, along with apartment personnel, are going door-to-door to notify residents.

The evacuation for the 162 occupants was issued by the Fire Marshal based on consultation with the City Attorney, Planning & Development Services, Code Compliance, and the City Manager’s Office. “Resident safety is of utmost importance when evaluating a structure of this type,” states Fire Marshal Kelly Kistner. “We appreciate the cooperation of residents and their families as we address these life safety issues.”

What legal recourse against the property owners do the apartment residents have when they are forcibly evacuated? The property owners should be required to pay for similar housing until they can move back in. The property owners are clearly not upholding the lease if their tenants cannot even stay in the building!

The City of Kyle is planning a billion-dollar area called Uptown Kyle.

It’s located off of Kohlers Crossing and FM 1626.

Uptown Kyle will include a hotel convention center, office spaces, a soccer complex and dozens of stores and restaurants.

That's Great!! The location will work nicely with the ACC Campus right there. Maybe it will end up something like Highland Campus.

It's not April 1st, so this must be a real thing. Robotters Arena in Cedar Park! From Gensler:

Quote:
Robotics is one of the fastest growing competitive sports for students of all ages. Despite its increasing popularity, there are no dedicated places for student teams to build and test prototypes and host local, national and international competitions. The proposed Robotters Arena, an approximately 100,000-square-foot facility, will be the first of its kind in the nation, complete with a 35,000-square-foot spectator area, maker spaces and classrooms, a multipurpose conference room, concession stalls and a gift shop. When not being used for competitions, the arena will function as an entertainment venue for gamers, robotics enthusiasts and visitors.
