I think it's 2140 Portage, since 2150 is Thunderbird Apts.

If it's 2140, this is what's planned. Looks like a drab but functional rectangle of EIFS.

There are two ways of looking at this building. One way is to look at it as a boring slab, another is to look at it as a building that practically defines a whole era of multi-unit residential construction in this city

It's basically to the 2020s as this sort of thing was to the 1970s:

It's more the modern version of the Martin Bergen era slab apartments of the 60's and 70's

I was hoping they would take some inspiration from the Mid-Century Modern buildings along Portage.

in 100 years Heritage groups will be protesting its demolition because it represents an excellent example of early 21st century architecture....of course the styrofoam facade will have peeled off by then.

^^^ Isn't that a good thing then "the styrofoam facade will have peeled off by then" they don't have the quality in construction to become an out of date eyesore.

Dislike Paragon's design aesthetics all you want, but you have to admit that they get shit built.

You are from Toronto where a new 60 storey residential tower is proposed every other day. Here in Winnipeg there aren’t many multi-family developers getting things built right now. We are having record population growth in the city and need homes. I get the “we shouldn’t accept everything just because” argument but…

I’d love for them to be stone and brick and look like they will be around in 100 years, but I just don’t know what our alternative here is right now.

Looks like the foundation is done and the wall for the 1st floor is going up.

Yes, they are. Looks like they're being done by Schell River ICF from Altona (I've meet them before, they're nice guys). 380 Young St also has above-grade ICF walls and Paragon is the developer for that building too.

Let's hope that ICF walls with hollow-core slabs start to become a more popular design. Much more durable and soundproof that than typical wood-frame construction.
