Wow, it has been such a long wait for major height. Congrats, Ed.

Wow, this is underway already huh? Great to see. Awesome, Edmonton. I have always hoped that Edmonton could compete more with Calgary in the skyline department, as Dallas and Houston or LA and San Francisco do. With this and the Delta getting built, it will move in the direction of skyline parity for Alberta's two big cities.

Parity? huh
Calgary 23 buildings over 500 ft. Built or proposed
Edmonton none built over 500 ft...3 Proposed

You forgot to quote "move in the direction of".

And kindly don't rain on our parade. We're kind of excited up here.

Thanks.

Exactly... Not to mention that when you have been limited by an airport overlay with a maximum of 150m or 492' until recently, it is a wee bit difficult to build 500.

Look, I live in Calgary and know the numbers are a bit skewed. But as others said...it's "move in the direction of". Edmonton's tallest will be the tallest outside Toronto and Calgary. 3rd tallest in Western Canada. That's pretty amazing for a city that was the butt of skyline jokes for so many years. Who would have thunk that Edmonton's tallest would be taller than Montreal or Vancouver's? As a guy who ends up visiting at least every year, I'm looking forward to seeing the changes in person, and really excited for our friends to the north.

Should this thread be moved to the Highrise Construction section now? Not sure what the criteria is in this section.

Rumours abound that stantec might be bumped from 62 to 70 storeys!!!

The delta may also go from 55 to 62!

If true, unreal for Edmonton.

At 62 stories 224m, average floor height is 3.61m, giving a roof height at 70 floors of 253m (spire notwithstanding). However it depends on where they're adding floors - if it's the residential component then the increase will be smaller.

Good sign when they bump the height/floors up on these proposals!! Doesn't sound like they're worried about "Shadowing" in Edmonton!

Oh my! If the height increases are confirmed ... it'll be interesting to see the reactions from a certain city down south.

I've updated the title of the thread and moved it to under construction. I will change the title back to 62 stories if the 70 storey rumour is false.

6 months from now the towers will be going vertical. Doubt that you see a scaling back.

Do you agree with fatboy ? Or do you think that the developer has already taken into account depressed oil prices ?
