The Mondrian (Dallas West Village Development) update

Last time we really need to see someones rendering on a
building finishing out and getting ready to be occupied:

Landscape photos by architect intern Jorge Soto:
(Linked photos as they are large file sizes.)
(If you can't view any of the photos below after 'clicking'
- due to some unresolved permissions issues,
then the url to the post #391 he included these photos in is
here.)

*Note the 'Green Screen' on the garage and at the open end of
the north courtyard which will someday be covered with vines.

20+ story Stoneleigh Court Hotel & Residence Tower

Has a rendering now (scale might be out of whack, but, then again -
the project's expansion that includes this new tower and a facelift of the
old building is supposed to be/apparently twice as tall as the original building from nearly 100 years ago.)

Looks like Park Lane Place will happen

Vickery Meadow area gets tax break

10:40 PM CDT on Wednesday, April 27, 2005

By DAVE LEVINTHAL / The Dallas Morning News

A blighted area near Dallas' NorthPark Center will soon become eligible for city tax subsidies, over the protests of Mayor Laura Miller and the area's City Council representative, Mitchell Rasansky.

The $33.6 million Vickery Meadow tax increment finance reinvestment zone is unnecessary, Ms. Miller and Mr. Rasansky argued, because large firms have already targeted the area as ripe for redevelopment.

Mr. Rasanky said 63 percent of the money, or about $20 million, will go to one proposed development – Park Lane Place, a $400 million redevelopment of the former NorthPark East office park.

"They don't need it," he said. "Development is going to get done anyhow."

"We need to pick and choose where we give away our tax money," Ms. Miller said.

Most of her council colleagues disagreed. They voted 13-2 for the reinvestment zone Wednesday.

The arrowhead-shaped zone is bounded by North Central Expressway on the west and Loop 12 on the south, with a section stretching northward to Royal Lane. Dallas Area Rapid Transit's red train line runs along its length.

Real estate editor Steve Brown contributed to this report.

An arts/museum/interest-piece bit

I believe some of this isn't mentioned and some of this
is a slight recap.

Dallas World Aquarium expansion done.

Museum of Natural History (significant architect to be named.)
Next to Victory and West End, it's lot is located here and slated
for a 2008 start.

Dallas Holocaust Museum:

Appropriatations (mostly philanthropic if not all) are still rolling in for some
long-expected additions of significant cultural institutions in the Arts
District. City Hall is behind expansion. A lot of what you see in the
background and foreground of the Wyly (borg cube) rendering will also change
significantly.
The Winspear Opera House (lipstick), The Wyly Theatre (borg cube),
The Annette Strauss Artists Square, and others... A recap of visuals:

Unity Plaza, where West Village approaches the Cityplace Station.
(M-Line Streetcar turnaround and DART Red/Blue/Future Purple LRT lines
underneath/nearby.)
