Interesting it'll be worth checking out.

West Elm is beautiful- really nice stock, and it's much bigger than I expected it to be- I didn't realise how extensive the interior changes to MRV were. Fantastic addition to 17th.

I like West Elm too. This is big news. I think they'll have no trouble attracting renters, new condo owners, Mount Royal homeowners, and suburban decorators to that location.

West Elm is gorgeous. I wish I could decorate my whole place from that store.

I haven't even heard of this place. Thanks for mentioning it. I will definitely have to go.

The Coventry Hills Future Shop that was closed in March might re-open as a Best Buy. This comes from someone who worked on winding down Future Shop. He found this funny because the store interior has already been demolished.

Great! Any rumblings on when and where? I know the article says two downtown locations, but that just seems bizarre, unless they're talking about a store and a service centre. Apparently there's one on display in Chinook right now, so maybe that's a candidate. Chinook would definitely fit their strategy.

I am glad that they are moving into Calgary, as I thought this would be a tough market here in Calgary. I can't wait to peruse one of these showrooms!

Overpriced vehicles are Calgary's forte! At least these ones won't be as disruptively loud when showing off on 17th Avenue

Though I would post this from Retail Insider a little earlier this month. These are the new floorplates for Simons in The CORE.. Bizarre layouts for the most part.

Those are bizarre layouts. I assume that the +15/30 access to Scotia Centre will remain open, just with passage through Simons? When Brookfield Place connects to Scotia, that direction will be a key access for foot traffic to the Core, especially in the winter.

It looks like that's closing, or at least you have to go through Simons to access Scotia Centre. Very strange and I really don't like this store because of what they are doing to this building and the fact that they forced the unicorn out.

It doesn't have a bypass like Holt's does, but it isn't a big deal. I'm sure they've thoguht this through.

Odd indeed.

On a related note, there has been on-going construction in that stretch of retail for a bit (specifically in the vicinity of the Superstore). Maybe they feel the longer term viability of a store there makes sense given the high volume already there, fueled by good amount of residential, a large number of businesses including retail and service industry, the recreation facilities, and one of the large transit terminus nodes in the city.

It will make you puke...in a good way. The acceleration is like nothing else.

I've seen a couple of them floor it on a green light, strange to hear just the sound of screeching rubber and nothing else...

If there's no passage through the Simons to Scotia, then isn't that kind of like a bullet to the head of Scotia's retail podium.

And wouldn't the Scotia podium have made more sense as a Simons location, instead?

My impression is that there is still a passage to Scotia, however, it now requires you to walk through Simons to get into Scotia Centre. About the same as the Watermark Tower's +15 access to The Core via Holts.
