Unfortunately I did not have a camera with me. I was actually a member of the string quartet asked to perform at the gala event, so I had my instrument but no camera. Still, it was great to roam around and take in the many layers of details connecting the different areas. It also didn't hurt that I had a chance to speak with Cesar Pelli at the event. Nice builidng.

Here's a bunch of twins in one photo:

1. Petro Canada Centre (big twin, little twin) - brown buildings at left. West tower is 53 stories, east tower is 33 stories.
2. 5th Avenue Place - two blue glass buildings perpendicular to each other at the bottom of the photo
3. Bow Valley Place - actually triplets; three white buildings near the centre of the photo.
4. Home and Dome Oil Towers - the two black buildings facing each other in the upper right portion of the photo.
5. Bankers Hall - the Silver and Gold towers near the top of the photo.

^ I see one more set of twins there also. In the lower left those two white/grey towers with the notched corners. Calgary is unique with it's twins. Most skylines if you heard that it was full of twins you'd think 'office park', but it's clearly not. Calgary has one of the best looking skylines around.

Yes, you're right - that's Sun Life Plaza. I didn't mention them because they're almost out of the picture. And they're actually part of a set of triplets.

They were designed by the same architects. Sherman,Carter, & Barnhart out of Lexington, KY. That would explain why they look so similar.

Eh, isn't Bow Valley Square actually a quadruplet? I think there is a fourth, shorter building that you can barely see poking around TCPL.

True, there are a gazillion nearly identical boxy skyscrapers built in the 50s and 60s. However, they are not Bauhaus buildings, which refers to a German movement in the 20s and early 30s. ok realm, you caught me. i should have replaced 'bauhaus style' with 'international style'.

p.s., if you really want to be argumentative, one could argue that the seagram was only the highest profile example of the glass box, whose utilitarian properties were originally indicative of the modern/bauhaus/international style.
