We are NOT Detroit. Plenty of urban farmers in MoTown.

^ There are a lot here too. I think they're kind of cool.

It's possible to design a good highrise podium

I completely agree with all the criticism of this and many other parking podiums. But I really like the podium at Heritage at Millenium Park.

Click here for the parking entrance/exits on Garland

(I tried to paste the Google map images directly into this post but couldn't figure out how to do it.)

Based on the number of times I've walked past that without noticing that it was a parking podium, I'd say you are on to something.

Yeah, the building itself isn't pretty, but it respects the street level quite nicely. They are also largely benefited by having the old public library in front of them to block their loading docks from view

The glass does not look so horrible when done. I still have no idea what they are thinking with that black grating.

I don't have the issue with this that most do, but it is strange that the concrete behind the glass panels on the north side of the garage has been painted. Its color matched pretty well, but it sure doesn't look like they are going back to paint the other sides

Some new renderings by Curbed. Nothing ground breaking but what I found most interesting is that the project was first announced in 2009. With a completion target of 2019 let's hope some of these proposals out right now don't take as long to come to fruition.

That is one busy base...

Anyway, does anyone know if they are still doing the mechanical screening up top to cover the protruding elevator core?

This has been driving me nuts..Hopefully someone more in the know has the answer.

Did they VE the crown/mechanical screen on top? I sure hope they didn't but unfortunately it appears they removed it all together from the design.

I was wondering that earlier... It's like they hate us and want us to be mad forever about the base and top. I'll hold out another few weeks before I give up on this tower

I really liked the slanted crown design but that obviously isn't happening.

To me no slanted crown is a bigger deal then the podium is because it leaves more of an impact from further away

I loathe those afterthought mechanical boxes. Architects should know what's going on the roof, know the size, and design a way to incorporate it into the design.

As for the base, what's crazy is the glass isn't that bad. It's just totally the wrong color. Did a colorblind person choose it? And the brackets look horrible.
