The deleted posts went off on a tangent about what to call immigrants, and there was some unpleasantness. The Italian restaurant recommendation is still posted. Let's move on. Here is an elevation for the Rainey Lady Bird Hotel.

Huh. That's....different, I guess? Doesn't look like a hotel to me but I'm old. I do like the mixed materials.

Edited to add - I went to the link to see the other elevations. That building has very few outward facing windows. It does have a central courtyard but it's going to be very dark except around noon. Looks motel-ish. But depending on the finishes, exterior and interior, it could be great. I'll wait to get all judge-y on it until I see renderings.

The Block 36 apartment project going up on the frontage road next to Palm Park will have one crane.

I still can't believe they're going to build that thing around a freaking billboard. Just saying.

Hey, maybe when the owner of the land that the billboard is on decides to sell out it'll end up being a very tall tower. After all, the land it sits on is probably pretty valuable.

The billboard companies can be the worst! Horrible contracts full of gotcha clauses. Reagan even helped to fund the anti-housing Prop J ballot measure that we thankfully defeated.

Unfortch, it's under a CVC.

This is actually the spot a convention center expansion SHOULD'VE gone. At least according to Mayor We vs us.

Joe's Crab Shack on Riverside is closing because they owed 10K in rent and 100K in back taxes.

That Lady Bird hotel is probably one of the better solutions to a tricky site. I don't imagine there's much money to be made on rooms facing the frontage road, and that courtyard is going to have one interesting view looking up and around, especially as time goes on. I've got to hand it to them for finding a way to "face" the hotel towards Rainey when it's literally on the next block.

The Rainey district is going to be one truly unique and one-of-a-kind urban neighborhood in the future, and it even already was. That's for sure.

Hopefully whatever residential project emerges from the ashes is nice and takes full advantage of the boardwalk. In fact, if redeveloped, this might be the first project to take shape after the boardwalk was constructed so I'm looking forward to what is built.

I wouldn't really say it's "facing' rainey, you have all the ugly back of house stuff on that side (electrical vaults, pool equip, trash, etc). But yeah, it does sort of put emphasis on its own central courtyard rather than the street it faces - the rather uninteresting I-35 frontage road.
