There was an update to the West Campus Moxy Hotel site plan as it goes into review. It'll be 4-stories with an additional two levels of underground parking and 158 rooms.

Another White Lodging joint.

I don’t think I knew this was also one of theirs. Crazy the number of rooms in this city soon to be under their control.

Too many If you ask me. It's a monopoly. Would prefer to see multiple companies for variety and competition.

Plan's for the former Carmelo's site at 504 E. 5th have been revealed. It will be a Rhode Partners designed "Depot Hotel". Much of the site will be preserved. This is for a presentation to the Historic Landmark Commission. Here are three links with info and renderings. After glancing through it I didn't see info on any new building. This is about what's being preserved for the new hotel:

Those prominent pillars seem to suggest a tallish building in what must be the parking lot. There’s no CVC preventing height there if I’m remembering correctly....

The meeting with the HLC is on Monday. Hopefully there will be some discussion about the tower part of the project.

I believe there is a CVC which runs through a portion of the site. Thus any tower will have an angled side and be forced to go taller to maximize RSF.

Too bad we can only see the base of the new structure. Honestly can't tell a whole lot from that regarding height.

Here's the CVC on the Carmelo's site from the 2016 CVC determination:

https://abc.austintexas.gov/web/perm...ertyrsn=879074

Here's the site from the presentation for the Monday HLC meeting. The tower will have to be thin and angled:

A CVC height determination request was filed today for the power substation at Seaholm. That seems unusual.

Could it be that the city is actually entertaining the thought of removing that eyesore?

I believe it was determined on here that anything there can be library height. I hope they aren't thinking about adding more of those cooling towers like on top of the garage next to 360.

I believe that the 17th floor terrace of the 360 is in that CVC. So, I imagine anything there could be much taller than the library.

It's for a new district cooling plant.

https://austinenergy.com/ae/about/be...strict-cooling

The CVC determination (IMHO) is probably just a formality. Looks like the plant itself will only be a couple of stories high.

The Depot Hotel plans were passed on consent at the HLC. So there was no discussion, and we'll have to wait to find out about the tower.
