Edmonton - Those COVID days/nights - A walk around the hood

Having been away for three weeks, I wanted to reconnect with my neighbourhood by way of photo tour, our new Al Fresco market, check out the LRT progress, grab a pint or three and then head to my first movie (Before Sunrise) since COVID times. As luck would have it, we ran into a brief downpour that provided some beautiful things to shoot.

Our newest residential high-rise 'Encore' (143m) - occupancy next week for some

The Valley Line SE LRT project will connect Downtown with the far SE section of the city.

Where is everybody?

The tallest tower outside of Toronto, Stantec Tower (241m) with ICE District behind it hosting the NHL for the next few weeks.

Our newest neighbour, Augustana Tower (96m)

Normally packed full of families and events this time of the year.

Exit only!

Here comes the rain again...

Nice pictures.

On the note of the pandemic, it doesn't seen to be a lot of mask-wearing. But crowds tend to be smaller. I see masks more frequently down here in the US.

Oddly enough, I'd say I normally see about 50-75% of people masked these days, but it certainly was not seen in these.

Our city just made it mandatory to have them in all public spaces.

edmonton looks like it's rather hilly, especially compared to calgary. looks like a nice, underappreciated city.

Calgary has quite a bit more undulation in its topography, but our river valley is significant from top of bank to top of bank.

nice to see. i like how it seems like we are hanging around and moving around the highlight views of town with you. i like thread 'feels' like that.

it struck me kinda funny to see that the train bridge over the river goes across the top and the people go into a tunnel, instead of vice versa.

Nice summer tour of Edmonton, a city mostly associated with winter otherwise; I remember seeing a documentary called "Winter cities" as a child when I just got into architecture and was fascinated by the skybridges, skyscrapers and West Edmonton Mall. I even recorded it on VHS. Edmonton looks nice summertime.
