Tower Life Building evacuated after brief fire

By Peter J Holley - Express-News

Authorities evacuated the Tower Life Building in downtown San Antonio Friday morning after a construction fire broke out on its rooftop.

Construction crews were dismantling an antenna on the roof top when netting used to prevent materials from falling to the street below caught fire, according to a statement from Deborah Foster, a spokeswoman for the San Antonio Fire Department.

“Our firefighters use this building as a training ground for high-rise incidents and they were very familiar with the building before they arrived."
