Fixed the link and added a paragraph from that article.

I'm sure this won't get screwed up. I'm sure the city wouldn't let that happen. The biggest threat to the project is financing. 2.6 million square feet of space, to put that into perspective, it would be like building 5 Frost Bank Towers.

Maybe in a project near Rainey Street (fingers crossed). At the very least, that would spread the grocery stores around downtown, as opposed to having all of them
within blocks of each other.

Looking over all the proposals, the Stratus plan was actually the 4th densest of the plans. I am not entirely sold on the Trammell Crow plan's aesthetics, but I am really looking forward to the amount of actual space that it will be bringing to downtown. And it will be a lot of fun watching all those buildings go up!
well it's like i said somewhere in my other posts... i'm simply judging by the renderings. the renderings can obviously change... but there is though as you say, more parking space for people that "live and work" around the area. of course it's always a good thing... me personally i'm just not a big fan of it. and that was basically what i was focusing on, based on the renderings it simply less dense than the stratus renderings. at least all the parking space makes it seem like it. i don't know... i'm not an architect or anything but i'm basically judging based on what i see. i'm not such a big fan of the renderings of the trammel crowe... but like i said, it can always change. i really hope it does. their renderings were boooooooring. but i agree i still can't wait for this project to go up and see these buildings get built, ironically. i'm also glad to hear that there is more retail in the trammel. hopefully 2nd st will be all the fuss people seem to make it. i hear people come from out of town visit 2nd st because they were told it's a great spot to "shop" and when they come up to me at work they always ask where the shops are. i shrug my shoulders and say... go to south congress! too bad i won't be here though to see this place blow up!

It looks like they just approved a contract with a construction company to move the Austin Energy Center site. The contract is for the construction of a new site in East Austin. The old (current site) in downtown is slated for two towers, one will likely be at least 500 feet tall.

Well that's different. Where's the office tower? I'm assuming the twin buildings are the residential towers and the shorter one is the hotel...

It's more like triplets. The third tower looks to behind and between the two buildings in the rendering. It would be more visible if the view was straight in front of the buildings instead of an angle.

Is it me or is something way wrong with the scale of that rendering vs. the other existing buildings? If these are 30 stories and residential, why do they look nearly 600ft tall?

In which rendering? In the article it only shows the empty field they will be built in. All the buildings in the picture are already built.

I'd estimate the buildings are around 575 feet tall. 360 Condos, the tower to the left and back, is 563 feet to the spire.

He's talking about the night rendering that's posted a few posts up.
Understood, and maybe it's just the angle of the rendering vs. the angle of the photo they used as a backdrop. It just looks really off to me, like the towers are scaled about 125% of what they should be.

I admit, it does look strange. That condo tower with the spire (360), has 44 floors. Only the Austonian to the right has more. Even the W Hotel & Residences has 36 floors, and it's 476 feet to the roof. You can see it in the rendering to the right of those towers (dark rectangular tower). But if you look, the main roofs of these new towers look to be about the same as the roof of the W, plus some kind of mechanical penthouse that looks to be about 90 to 100 feet tall. For comparison, the crown on Frost Bank Tower is 100 feet tall and the mechanical penthouse/crown on The Austonian is 61 feet tall.
