It looks nothing like the bank of China. One could say Stantec Tower looks like CIBC Square done on the cheap if we are going to reach here. One of those two is more accurate then the other. Also I think it wouln't cost much more to build the bank of China Building today then CIBC because the floor plates don't undulate and the the glass facade is flat on all sides.

There are many buildings with diagrids on them, though very few where the glass follows the pattern on the largest surfaces (typically they're still flat). Hearst tower (NY) has nice corner treatment and Bank of China uses the triangles well to transition to a peak, but it still has flat walls.

Even if it was an overused design through the world, CIBC is still one of the nicest commercial buildings in Canada for the sunset reflections alone.

Lol Coldrsx. While a bit astonishing how your home town's one actually tall scraper has recently blanked the internet with photos, it’s ironic that Stantec is a “box”, which is the much-favoured troll candy when slagging The Six.

This sort of thing would have helped Stan.

Love the glass, hate the girth.

Have to agree. CIBC looks great but it's too wide to be a truly beautiful looking building.

Nicest, no, Calgary has built 3 nicer office buildings in the last decade than CIBC Square.
The worst part about CIBC Square is that we will be getting an identical copy in a few years.

Twisty Mississauga: wondering if M3 at M City - 260m - 77 storeys will be the tallest suburban city tower in North America. San Pedro Garza Garcia in Mexico has 279m tower but is described as part of "metropolitan" Monterrey, so not sure it's an autonomous city. 30 Hudson in New Jersey is only 238m.

Excavation and shoring for M3 and two other M City twists rising behind (see render below)

M3 and the rest of M City by Rogers Real Estate

Rogers Real Estate huh? The fact that our major telecoms are involved in real estate says a lot...

The Rogers family has owned the M City lot since the 1960s.

Again subjective.... I disagree. People complain about CIBC Square being too thick, yet like the Bow? That thing looks like the Great Wall Of China. Telus Sky is stunning but isn't 100% office (its over half residential), and Brookfield Place is classy but nothing that would turn heads about it.

CIBC Square is striking, bold, and will turn heads once complete. I don't subscribe to the philosophy that a tower has to be slim to be great. Sometimes girth can add to the look.

Add 1/3 to the height and reduce the tower by 2/5 and it would be stunning. At the moment it is conjoined twins awaiting surgery and freedom,.

Fly to Toronto first and see it in person before you start firing off your negative opinion. It's not nearly as bloated as you'd think. On a side profile it's actually quite slim.

But we will agree to disagree.

Skyscraper beauty is subjective, not objective. Remember that.

I had the opportunity to see it firsthand in August. Again, love the glass, disappointed in the look and proportions.

A nice addition, but far from stunning and hardly something to write home about relative to other towers around the globe.

Yeah it's thin on two sides and paunchy on two sides... like this below.

Except it has diamonds instead of balconies.

Stantec is a beautiful tower and is very impactful on the Edmonton skyline.

CIBC towers are beautiful in their own right but could have used more height.

I swear you can't make a 'negative' comment about anything Toronto related without a local's feather's being ruffled. Relax... they're just opinions... no need to get all city vs. city

Exactly what scraper forum planet are you visiting? 90% of Toronto content is slagged (or ignored) and occasionally a slag comment like Coldrsx' gets a deserved retort. He even doubled up the slag by editing Travis' actual quote (which was very funny but copyright infringement ;-) What's the big deal? Is it illegal?

Seems like a bit of fair play, compared to the avalanche of junk in all the other lio threads.

P.S. Brampton is a dump (discuss).

In my opinion, the new CIBC tower looks nicer than the Bow. For a wide building at least the roof has different heights instead of being flat.
