It looked like the CRUs at Sky were all vacant... I didn't see any signs indicating that they were occupied. Ship Street Village is another trouble spot... only the tanning/body sugaring place appears to be operating with the remaining spaces vacant. By contrast, Excelsior is nearly full and Strand is completely full, although a planning firm isn't really the kind of business that would generate any walking traffic.

On the topic of Sky, from a residential perspective, I've heard people are moving into Sky 2 as early as Oct 14.

Mere is accepting reservations beginning Nov 15!

I have not heard anything about that.

Watermain was fixed on Friday, parkade fixes and landscaping is next.

Subsidies suggested for potential downtown grocery store investors
By: Aldo Santin

A report on the feasibility of a downtown grocery store concludes subsidies may be necessary to lure a potential operator.

Among the report’s findings:

$2 million is needed to stock a 10,000 square-foot grocery store.

The best location for a new grocery store operation, based on nearby population, would be three sites long Portage Avenue: at the intersections of Colony, Vaughan and Carlton streets.

Establish a large, year-round farmers market: 60,000-80,000 square feet, with 60-80 vendors.

Exchange District population cannot support a full-service grocery store at this time, but the best bet for the area are a series of small, European-style, boutique or high-end specialty shops focusing on single product lines, ie bakery, cheese, deli, sweets.

Downtown residents have a variety of food sources available to them now, mostly small convenience stores scattered throughout the area.

Thoughts, although a feasibility study, interesting none the less.

I've wanted to see smaller specialty grocery stores in The Exchange for a while. Mostly for aesthetic reasons. I like the look of multiple, unique store fronts as opposed to one large store front that occupies the entire block. It adds to the character of an area.

Inner Convenience. It has been open for about two years... it's your garden variety small convenience store, and the only one I can think of in the East Exchange. It doesn't really stand out and it isn't open late so it's easy to forget it's there unless you happen to pass by it.

Excellent! I know someone who's moving in next Monday. It'll be great to see the extra life in the area. The more the merrier!

unfortunately things aren't going smooth, the developer is trying to rob me an extra ~$500. to cover costs that weren't on the contract....my lawyer says they have no battle becuase there is no stipulation in the contract that says i have to pay, so and i should win. so don't have the keys...those bastards.

yup...looks like they won't give out the keys unless i pay extra money. even tho fws group's lawyer admitted that it doesn't say on the contract, and fws group even said themselves that they made a mistake on the contract. and now apparently the contract also states that fws is supposed to send out a document to me saying i have this certain parking spot, but they don't want to because they think they are awesome. is it me or are they just idiots with big heads with small dicks?? so all in all my lawyer recommends that i pay for it now just to close the deal but with a protest to take to court to get my monies back.

Of course, that way your lawyer gets more money.

Don't pay it, walk away from the deal.

well he says i don't need lawyer for getting my money back,

but if i were to back out of the deal, i would need a lawyer to get my original desposit back becuase that was done last yr.

so really..its pretty much pay now, and then go to court yourself and get your money back...which my lawyer said will be easy to win since they dont' have proof on any of the documents that have me paying the extra.
