Say 2 years to complete.

It will be over 7 years from rezoning to completion.

This has ALOT to do with our housing crisis. Alot.

A 7 year delay in response to demand is so far beyond ridiculous that it hurts me to comprehend.
I made this post July 16, 2018.

Its complete lets say July 25, 2021.

8 years and 3 months from submission to completion.

I recognize there was additional complexity to this particular project.

But at the end of the day its a middling 30floor'ish tower that took 8 years to bring to market.

That's incredible.

When it went on presales in May 2016 the completion was Fall/Winter 2019 if that means anything.

There was a lot of opposition to the rezoning (Jubilee House land swap) including a court case, so that probably delayed it a lot.

Noticed traffic on that video last week. Now I know where it was coming from.

The drone video is trying to be too action-packed for no reason, but the above aerial is really good. The building really nicely adds to the area. Too bad that it is priced completely out of touch from reality and the area is quickly deteriorating.

At one time it used to be desirable to live next to a park...

Even though there are actually a lot of subsidized housing in this neighbourhood, I can specifically identify five that have pretty much directly contributed to ruining this area at a much faster pace in recent years after their inception:

1. Drug shoot-up centre at Helmcken & Seymour (Aids Vancouver Building).
2. The Gathering Place CC at Helmcken & Seymour.
3. The Luggat Lodging (formerly Howard & Johnson Hotel) at Granville and Davie.
4. The Murray Hotel at Hornby & Helmcken.
5. Metson Shelter at Howe & Helmcken.

A block south, as well as Granville Street, there are countless other shelters/subsidized housing locations both provincial and municipal governments have squeezed into this stretch of downtown. Without a system to actually get the people these places house to become better productive citizens, I'm afraid we won't be seeing an improvement of this neighbourhood.

Walking around these days, there are significantly more riff raffs and drug addicts, with many looking and behaving like thugs and criminals.

8X is still a new building, but given time it will see its share of problems, like cars in parkade getting broken into, smashed windows at the retail units, graffiti along the walls in the alleyway, etc.
