Disappointing to see SJ Green to end his CFL career this way. When I saw that TO released him I was hoping he'd got to MTL for a swan song.

As the XFL season ends prior to CFL training camp, is there still is the potential for him to sign on with a CFL team?

I know if I was in the position I would look to play in both leagues to get more money.

^ The buzz was that SJ was trying to double up on his paycheques - play in the XFL and then bounce over to the CFL. Even better in his eyes if he gets to miss CFL training camp. I'm surprised that more players didn't take that route, although it's possible more might next season if the XFL makes it to a second season.

I agree and I don't blame them. I would too. Just hoping there is no clause in the XFL contract that says you can't do that, which would be real unfortunate for the players.

The Rod Peterson Show
Friday February 21 2020 Hour 1

Former CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon joined the show (start at 24:05 m) for a life update, his recent Ted Talk and best CFL memories.

He said he’s most proud of getting the CFL back in Ottawa with much success, and also the stadium renaissance in the CFL.

Mark said he was never shy of confessing his affection and admiration for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, saying he even named his dog “Rider”!

Mark also revealed that he was offered the position as Commissioner of the XFL, but declined. He was happy to go out on a high with the CFL. He’s currently the Chairman of the Junos and is launching a spirits company.

Looking at the pre-sale for Touchdown Atlantic. The only sections with seats together are at the ends. Only singles available in the vast majority of sections. Not sure if they are holding some seats back for the general sale.

Still no Derel Walker signing hoping the Bombers have enough cap space to try and land him and pair up with Adams would be a great combo for Collaros to throw to.

Touchdown Atlantic sales now open to the public and it is down to singles in the stands. General admission tickets are still being sold for behind the endzones:

Edmonton Eskimos $99 season ticket section has completely sold out. Knock knock Argos Als and BC Lions try this. You may not make much on the ticket but these people will buy beer food and merchandise.

XFL ratings are crashing down to earth now at just 800,000 viewers this past weekend which is close to CFL numbers but in a market 10 times the size of Canada.

Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group installing new grass-like turf at TD Place
3Down Staff 3downnation March 10, 2020

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group has decided to majorly upgrade the playing field at TD Place.

The existing turf will be removed and replaced with “FieldTurf Core,” a state-of-the art playing surface engineered to provide athletes with a more grass-like feel to help enhance performance, with optimal durability, resiliency and shock absorbency.

“This is great news for all athletes that will compete on the field at TD Place and for the fans that will watch them perform,” Mark Goudie, OSEG’s CEO, said.

“It also heightens our ability to bring major national and international sporting events to Ottawa and attract a wider-range of fans to TD Place.”

FieldTurf, a global leader in the artificial turf industry, also supplied the current playing surface at TD Place. It was installed in 2014 as part of a major refurbishment of the stadium prior to the start of the Ottawa Redblacks first season in the Canadian Football League and the Ottawa Fury’s first season in the North American Soccer League.

“This new surface to TD Place will benefit all athletes who have the privilege of playing here and this investment emphasizes the commitment to excellence that’s shared by our OSEG ownership partners,” Redblacks general manager Marcel Desjardins said.

Both professional teams played their home games and practiced on the field, which was also used for high school football, amateur soccer clinics and matches, as well as international soccer matches and “friendlies.” The FieldTurf Core product is the highest rated artificial turf in history due to its multi-layer fiber technology and unique triple-layer infill system. (As rated by Labosport, a global leader in laboratory and on-site sport field testing.)

“We’re proud and excited to continue to be the trusted surface of TD Place Stadium,” Eric Daliere, FieldTurf president, said.

“It’s a privilege to partner with those that share our dedication to excellence and unwavering desire for quality. The city of Ottawa will continue to be home to one of Canada’s leading venues.”

A few days prior to the laying of the turf in 2014, a 1976 silver dollar was embedded in the subsurface by Mayor Jim Watson as a tribute to what was then the last Ottawa CFL team to win a Grey Cup: the 1976 Ottawa Rough Riders. The coin, donated by local football fan, Scott Bradley, was intended to deliver some championship karma to the Redblacks.

After their expansion season in 2014, the Redblacks went on to appear in three of the next four Grey Cup games, winning the Grey Cup championship in 2016. The ’76 silver dollar will remain in place under the new turf and, to add to the karma, a 2016 silver dollar will be placed next to it by a Redblacks season seat member to commemorate the 2016 Grey Cup victory.

The new turf will be installed in the month of April and be ready for Atlético Ottawa’s Canadian Premier League home-opener on May 16. That means the surface will be good to go for the Redblacks’ first pre-season game against Montreal on Friday, May 29.

2020 Touchdown Atlantic game between Riders, Argos sells out

https://3downnation.com/2020/03/11/2...gos-sells-out/

The 2020 edition of Touchdown Atlantic has sold out in one day after opening to public sale.

The Toronto Argonauts are set to play host to the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders in the east coast contest on July 25 at Huskies Stadium on the grounds of Saint Mary’s University.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the response to this year’s Touchdown Atlantic,” Canadian Football League Commissioner Randy Ambrosie said.

”Our incredible fans from every corner of the country have come together to deliver the league a clear message: that Canadian football has a home in Atlantic Canada.”

For the game, capacity at Huskies Stadium had been increased to approximately 10,000. Given the community’s quick response, the CFL has begun exploring options to welcome more fans to the annual event.

“We anticipated that a quick sellout might be possible and we have a number of plans to increase capacity for the big game,” Duane Vienneau, the CFL’s Chief Grey Cup and Events Officer, said.

“We are actively exploring options with Saint Mary’s University to potentially expand fixed seating and to increase capacity in both the Family and Party Zones.”

In addition to the Touchdown Atlantic matchup, the game will be preceded by a three-day ‘mini Grey Cup festival’, a series of events and community visits by both teams. Further details will be announced in the months leading up to the game."

Wishing and hoping Braley actually sells the Lions soon the longer he keeps hanging on to them their fan base keeps getting smaller and smaller the damage he did to the Argos brand is still being felt to this day.
