Indeed, if they add at-grade crossings then they might as well just call this Victoria Avenue and spend the money elsewhere.

Are they referring to "The Townes"?

edit: It appears yes: https://www.regina.ca/opencms/export...wsletter-1.pdf

There are several landowners involved, including Dream and the City.

that has been pushed out a bit:

Summer 2015 – Selection of preferred proponent.
Summer 2015 – Construction expected to begin.
Fall 2017 – West Regina Bypass and Pilot Butte interchange expected to be open in advance of full completion.
Fall 2018 – Projected completion date.

Didn't know anything about it - east neighbourhood meaning north of Greens on Gardiner?

PS: Should this maybe in the general Regina construction thread? This isn't really bypass specific.

EDIT: Found this link: http://www.regina.ca/residents/urban...bourhood-plan/

I put it here because it was tied in with the new bypass as it would be on both sides and they were planning for access. So it had relevance.

Thanks for the links Sask1982!

There is an ad on p.2 of today's LP by a group opposing the Bypass. They are saying it should be a 50 year project. They also say the diverging diamond interchange (animation at link) at Pilot Butte is too scary for prairie folk to handle.

Just as a warning, the man in charge of the group is a property owner who will be negatively affected by the Bypass. Safety may be a concern, but his issue number one is protecting his business.

I don't like the design of that interchange at Pilot Butte either but everything else is fine!

That design is useful in certain areas, however, if they are worried about large volumes a loop, IMO, is a better design. OR an even better design would be a Single Point Urban Interchange. However, those require a lot more bridge structure to work.

One thing that is interesting to me, is at the proposed Balgonie Interchange. The south intersection is shown as a round-a-bout. How does this work for large trucks? I mean I know the turning radius can be designed to accommodate them, however, Keeping it as a regular 90 degree turn IMO would be best.

I guess we will have to see what the ultimate designs are before we can really start to comment.

I think the main benefit, besides being cheaper, of this type of interchange is that it uses little land. It is suited for cramped urban settings. I am not sure this is an issue in PB.

I don't know if you are being facetious or not, but that is not a "cheap" interchange to build.

Would still be in the $30-40M dollar range.

And at $1 billion + for the whole project... It's not on the cheap side... The cheap side would be nothing. Or 100% at grade intersections on a gravel road.

Yes it has,

This is an email I have got from the Ministry of Highways:

"Thanks for your interest. The paving should be completed this fall up to and including the CPR overpass but it will not be open this year. The remaining portion of the West Regina Bypass will be added to the Regina Bypass project and it will open in 2017."

So it is done, just North of the overpass will be opened when the West Bypass opens in 2017.
