When crossing the gunningsville bridge, you can actually see how the two 6 story buildings make a big difference when look toward Dieppe.

Yes, the plans for Gauvin Estates are for three six-storey apartment buildings:

What's going on at the corner of Paul and Virginia? Yesterday there were work trucks and today there are giant concrete pipe sections on site.

Sounds like they are going to be fixing that road, possibly widening it and re routing it around to Acadia ave. I know it was in the plans to re route it and what better time to dig around the marsh then the winter when it's frozen.

the Paul street extension to connect with Acadie has been proposed before and was shot down due to environmental reasons because of the infill required in the marsh. Do you have a source for this or are you just speculating?

I was going by the old plans from a few years ago, I actually never new it was shot down, but it would always be nice if they did that, it would direct traffic away from champlain between paul and acadie a little bit.

So I took a drive by the site in Dieppe that Myles pointed out and they are clearing land and looks to be making a road and also putting in the larger cement pieces as they go along. Very similar to when the upgrade roads in the city with new sewers.

Dieppe mayor hopes for upgrades
Friday, January 18, 2013
Times & Transcript
By: Eric Lewis

Transportation minister says Dieppe Boulevard project one of many being considered

Dieppe Mayor Yvon Lapierre is hoping the provincial government will come through with funding to allow for major upgrades to Dieppe Boulevard near Highway 15 in 2013.

Lapierre said an upgrade to that increasingly busy commercial area is Dieppe's number-one infrastructure priority relating to provincially designated highways this year.

'We have been having conversations with personnel from the Department of Transportation and have been having ongoing discussions as well with the minister and we hope to see the project come to fruition,' Lapierre said.

'It's really in the best interest of not only Dieppe, but Moncton on the other side with the expansion that's taking place over there, as well as all of the traffic that's coming in from Shediac. That entire area is getting to be a high traffic area and we hope that the minister will see it our way.' Dieppe budgeted $1.25 million in 2013 in the hope that the province would match that amount for traffic improvements to the designated highway. Lapierre said his city's vision for the project would see the widening of Champlain Street and Dieppe Boulevard where they intersect and the addition of dedicated turn lanes on both sides of Dieppe Boulevard south of the highway overpass, to ease traffic coming in and out of the city in that area.

As far as the two-lane overpass goes, Lapierre is willing to wait on upgrades to it.

'We're trying to maximize the use of that area with limited funds from both sides, from both the province and ourselves.' He said traffic on the overpass is manageable for now.

'Because everything gets plugged up much before the overpass, it makes it look as if the overpass is the issue,' he said.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams yesterday offered no guarantees that Dieppe Boulevard itself would see upgrades in 2013, but said it is one of many projects the government is considering.

Of the $279.6-million capital budget his department has for 2013-2014, $8.8 million is budgeted for provincial designated highways within municipalities.

Williams said every municipality and rural community in the province was invited to submit their top five priorities for highway projects this year, and his department is now sorting through them. He hopes to be able to announce projects in February.

While he didn't have a total value for the requests, Williams said just the number-one requests from each municipality in the last fiscal year totaled nearly $70 million.

'My guess, just for the first priority (of each municipality and rural community this year) would add up to more than $70 million, and I have $8.8 million (to spend),' he said.

The transportation minister said every request from across the province is legitimate, but he simply doesn't have enough money to do them all.

Earlier this week, Dieppe Centre-Lewisville Liberal MLA Roger Melanson issued a news release asking the Alward government for an update on infrastructure projects in the Harrisville area.

Melanson noted that the area is growing and that safe infrastructure is essential to accommodate increased traffic in the already congested area.

'The Harrisville Boulevard/Dieppe Boulevard overpass project is very important, as it has become the main entrance to Dieppe,' he said. 'It also provides direct access to the Dieppe Industrial Park, the community of Lewisville as well as the Greater Moncton International Airport.' Melanson said the area needs the infra structure now and 'not during an election year.' Williams said yesterday that Melanson is bringing nothing new to the discussion.

'Everybody in the area understands the importance of that infrastructure project,' the minister said.

'As we speak, there is some work going on collaboratively between the City of Moncton, the City of Dieppe and the Department of Transportation. We are still looking at all of the options in that area, what would be the best fit in ter ms of planning. We've got to look at the long term in that growing area.' Once planning is done, design is next and then budgeting will take place. Williams offered no timeline for when a major project in that area might take place.

One project that was announced in December for the area will see the province pave 2.5 kilometres of Highway 15, from the Harrisville/Dieppe boulevard overpass to the railroad crossing.

I think the recent construction activity near Victoria street is part of the Greater Moncton sewer system upgrade. I found this article online, but it dates back to october 2010:

Moncton plans for $126 million sewage system

Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe are among the fastest growing areas in New Brunswick and that has increased the demand on the city’s sewage line.
But a $126 million plan developed by the Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission includes the construction of a new treatment plant that will exceed federal guidelines.
A new sewage line, pumping stations, screening facilities and a tunnel under the Petitcodiac River are also part of the plan.
The first step is to build the tunnel, Commission Chairman Ronald LeBlanc told The Times Transcript. A new sewage line running through the tunnel will connect with a pumping station that will be erected in Dieppe near Victoria Avenue.
The newspaper said the plan designates close to $38 million for pumping stations, an outfall and screening facilities. Almost $6 million has been budgeted to complete the solid-waste facility lo- cated on Delong Drive.
Its balance sheet also includes $11 million for pre-treatment and improved solid screening, and $7 million to upgrade sewage and storm runoff separation.
A biological treatment facility that uses advanced technology and two new clarifiers will cost $49 million.
LeBlanc told the paper when the system is in place the sewage released into the Petitcodiac would be close to the tertiary level.
The commission would like the project to be financed between the provincial and federal govern- ments and the city. If that isn’t realized LeBlanc said it might be forced to triple its $150/year sewage bills.
Public information sessions about the plan were being scheduled for October in Riverview, Moncton and Dieppe.

Since there is no Victoria St or Ave in Dieppe, I suggest that the article should have read "Virginia". Dexter construction has started work to install a major size trunk sanitary sewer line beginning in the area of Paul Street extension and Virginia Ave. This is a likely location for a sewage pumping station.
I believe the sanitary sewer trunk line will run along the corridor lands reserved for a future extension of Paul Street, east across the marsh (highway 106) and then turn north to extend to Thomas Street.

Well here is the official news release from the City of Dieppe concerning the work being done near Virginia st (and not Victoria st.). They don't say anything about the pumping station and tunnel though.

Work being done near Chartersville marsh

Posted on Thursday January 24, 2013
The City of Dieppe wishes to advise residents that work to replace the Babineau Creek trunk sewer has begun and will continue until the end of summer.

The first phase of the project between Virginia Avenue and Acadie Avenue began in early January since that particular work must be done during winter when the marsh is frozen.

The second phase between Acadie Avenue and Thomas Street will begin in the spring and will continue until July.

This trunk sewer collects wastewater from adjacent sewers before being transported to the Greater Moncton Sewage Commission’s wastewater treatment facility.

The existing sewer line crosses Chartersville marsh and must be replaced in order to improve the sewage network for current and future needs.

In 2014, work will be carried out to abandon the existing sewer line in the marsh.
