Thanks. That's well worth the wait and knocks the socks off the park. Does anyone know when a decision will be made on the proposals?

I know what I want for Christmas.

Doesn't it seem I little weird using Google SketchUp for the proposal? (besides the first one)

Or is there new renderings coming out soon?

That is no ordinary poodle. That poodle, gentlemen, will singlehandedly revitalize downtown Winnipeg.

Can you imagine the huge poodle silhouette that will fall upon St. Boniface when the Sun sets in the West, behind the poodle?

if it was completely privetely funded, that would be cool.
However, is it going to be all glass? I don't think glass skyscrapers fit Winnipeg style very well; also I think Hotel Fort Garry wouldn't be happy at all... maybe they should move it closer to Portage&Main to increase density there?

I agree with spiritedenergy in that the "Vancouver style" might not shine in Winnipeg. Nonetheless, from the render, I am extremely intrigued as it seems very unique. It would sure do more for downtown then a fake fort would ever do. ...I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but some people have dropped a few hints on these pages to "expect the park". I remain very discouraged, but hopeful for the best.

Come on Winnipeg, Human Rights Museum, and giant condo tower.

Yeah, just tell them to move their skyscraper. No big deal.

Don't like Vancouver-esque? So you guys aren't big fans of the TD building?

its pretty common to use sketch up...especially in the RFP (or EOI) stage.

i totally understand why it makes sense here....the forks and the high density residential neighbourhood that surrounds it is a good selling feature....it makes more sense to build residential here than near portage and main, with no amenities and no other population.

i have always thought that a glass residential tower would sell like crazy here....there are lots of people in winnipeg who want the amenities of larger cities and would pay for the vancouveresque lifestyle, i think....the view in the animation over the forks to the human right museum is awesome...i also like the view through the towers of portage and main with this tower in the middle anchoring the end of downtown...very cool.

not looking like the typical beige winnipeg communist tower is a good thing.

I'm actually not a huge fan of the TD building. I don't have anything against it ...but then again, I'm a fan of our city hall, so it's probably best not to take my opinion on what looks good.

the "beige winnipeg communist tower" is beautiful, it's the same color of the Great-West Life, Legislature, etc., it's what makes Winnipeg unique and "warm" (especially with the prairie light at dusk)... I like vancouver-esque buildings, but in Vancouver/Toronto (i.e., on a waterfront), not in Winnipeg.
If it's condo then it makes more sense there, very close to the Forks, but still covers the view from the hotel...

OK - I'll be the nit-picky guy here.

Does anyone else here feel that tower seems kinda bulky and simply out of place for that location? That animation certainly didn't do the building justice.

That exposed parkade thing just ruins this building for me. I also would love to see something a little sleeker and with some "cleaner" lines in this city.

Obviously, I am no architect, but it just seems someone kinda plunked that building there without really thinking about it.

What can't this city have tall buildings without flat roofs?

I always liked the Canadian Wheat Commission building, but you never hear anyone talking about it.

have you seen the cost of the new condos on waterfront and wellington?....250-500k...those are big city condo prices.

a few years ago 150k was unheard of for a condo....

if i was dropping 400k for a condo, i would way rather live on the 35th floor of a glass tower overlooking the city than a glorified side by side on waterfront....

its probably why the wellington condos are selling so well.....more modern and big city in its appearance.

thats good you like it, because it will probably be typical in winnipeg for a while...the reason buildings look like that here, is because it is cheaper.

i am personally in favour of something sparkly for once.
